During his service aboard the USS Drake Ban was given two counts of insubordination in one incident aboard the bridge when he was on duty and was ordered to fire a photon spread at an asteroid that was on a course to destroy a federation listening post on the Cardassian border. Instead of complying Ban took the photons offline and made a rather obscene gesture to the Admiral who had given him that order. The reason for this act of insubordination was that earlier that day he had gotten a bottle of his favorite whiskey from an old friend back on the Fox. Needless to say Ban was so drunk it was a wonder he was able to take the photons offline. After a very quick investigation Ban Dhar was demoted to Ensign. |

Ban Dhar was born in Monterey, California to Captain Jim Dhar, a local cargo runner, and his wife Maria Dhar. Ban spent the first 14 years of his life with the thought that he would stay on Earth and surf for the rest of his life not caring about the stars whatsoever, that is, until his father took him on a month long round-trip journey to the Omicron system and back. After the journey, all Ban could think about was space and Starfleet. He began spending less and less time surfing and more time studying ship manuals and reading old ship specs. On his 18th birthday, he made the biggest decision of his life that he wouldn't have even thought about less then 4 years ago. He joined the Starfleet Academy. During his four years at the Academy, he decided on a General Arts and Sciences program that included such courses from the medical sciences to engineering, as he was unsure which path to follow. As his last year at the Academy came to a close, Ban discovered a path that both intrigued and challenged him to drive his imagination much farther than any other field he studied. Tactical. Unfortunately, due to it being his fourth and final year at the Academy, Ban was able to focus his studies along this path. Instead of the usual 6 month course the Advanced Tactical school in Glasgow offered, he therefore was required to spend the pre-requisite 2 years to facilitate the lack of course study in his initial four year program at the Academy. He took the bull by the horns though, bit down, and excelled at his studies. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Top of Class ribbon and named Valedictorian. As he made his way up to the podium to accept the award, a man wearing a uniform much like his father's pulled him aside and told him the most mind numbing thing he had ever heard. His parents were killed onboard his father's ship when the warp core breached. There were no survivors. After that day nobody saw Ban Dhar for an entire year. Some say he went back to Monterey. Others say he spent that year furthering his knowledge in all things Tactical . All that is known was that he had been given a year long leave of absence and that nobody had seen or heard him until he beamed aboard the USS Desert Fox where he served as a Tactical Officer. After serving nearly two years on the Desert Fox, he was transferred to the USS Drake. The Desert Fox was scheduled for a complete 6 month refit and overhaul, so Ban was, like many of his fellow crew members, transferred to the first available ship. Aboard the USS Drake he served as Assistant Chief Tactical Officer for another two years until its destruction during a trip into the neutral zone. It encountered a spatial anomaly and was slowly torn apart by intense gravitational forces. Only Ban and 39 of the crew survived. After already being demoted before the USS Drake was destroyed, Ban Dhar returned to Earth and spent a year teaching an Applied Tactics course back in San Francisco. Three years later, in 2381, Ensign Ban Dhar put in for transfer to the first available starship. After waiting nearly 3 months, his transfer orders came through for the USS Galaxy. |

Except for some days when
he feels very sure of himself, Ban Dhar is usually easy to teach and knows
humility. This way Ban learns all he
sees and is always up to a challenge. You’ll find him easy to befriend
as he is loyal and enjoys company. In his free time he usually likes
to hook up with a couple of his crew mates to either start a game of poker
or pool, but oftentimes he’ll get his
friends to the bar where he likes to sample some of the Irish rums while
watching a game of chess. Never a player, always an observer. If
there’s nobody
around he enjoys playing his 21st century guitar or going to the holodeck
for a round of surfing.
Ban’s first priority when he first comes aboard a new ship is to get to know all his crewmates. He dislikes walking by a person and not be able to say hello. If you get to know Ban you’ll see he is very friendly and is never one to judge. Be warned though! You are either Ban’s enemy or his friend so be sure to choose the right side. A few things not to do is, 1) ask about Ban’s parents if you wish to live a long life, 2) don’t accept a drink from Ban unless you know you can handle some real rum, and 3) don’t ask about anything that has to do with reprimands. |
