Kalran was born during the occupation of Bajor in a prison camp. She never met her parents but was later given two pearls that carry her parents souls by a maternal aunt. She wears them in her d'ja pagh. Life in the prison camp was rough for the young pretty Bajoran. Thankfully she was too young for some of the atrocities perpetrated in the camps, but she did develop ways to deal with things. She was cared for largely by her maternal aunt who taught her the religious ways of hypnotism which she became extremely adept at. She was known as a great soother even at the young age of 8 for her ability to make people forget their pains while living under oppression. Her aunt didn’t survive the freeing of Bajor and soon young Kalran was being shipped around in various welfare-foster type situations as Bajor made efforts to rebuild itself. This is where Kalran first developed her kleptomania, as she would steal little pieces of each place she was in an attempt to make something permanent out of her very temporary existence. Eventually she reached the legal age of suffrage and took the first boat off Bajor to join the Federation, hoping to truly find her fixed place in the galaxy. She wasn’t a great cadet at the SFFC, but she did win an eating contest vs. her company CO (she took a cufflink as a souvenir but never got caught for it). She graduated only one week after original flight graduated (see reprimands) and was sent to Sheppard AB for training as a Crew Chief since she seemed “so good with her hands.” She completed the course (and has her instrutor’s lucky coin to show for it, unbeknownst to him of course), and took an assignment aboard the USS Galaxy as a Flight Technician.


Kalran is a spunky young lady with a zest for life. She has no real hatred for the Cardassians as she remembers very little of her early years. She “mesmerized” her memories away was a late teen. Her skills at hypnotism are often very useful to her. Her other passion is eating; she has a metabolism like a ferret and can eat any full Klingon under any table and never seems to gain weight – EVER! Her worst trait is her tendency to pick stuff up. She doesn’t aggressively steal anything, but if it’s lying around, near her small hands… most likely it’ll end up in one her many many many drawers in any of her many many cabinets.
