Alex grew up in New Moscow, New Centauri as an only child. However, at an early age, she began to make friends easily. Ever since she was a toddler, she would take things apart...soon she began to attempt to reassemble the objects, though she was not always successful.

Her father, Dr. Chris Lee was a well known scientist and her mother, Jenna Lee, was a successful attorney. Living a good life, they gave Alex everything she could ever want. However, this caused a rift to begin to form between her and her friends that did not attend private schools. Alex then pleaded with her parents to allow her to attend normal school in order to be with her friends. After a long talk with their daughter, they were against the decision to allow their daughter to attend normal school, electing that attending a private school offered Alex a better chance at getting into a good university.

Devastated, Alex began to slowly withdraw from her parents, focusing on her school work and participating in sports, namely Swimming and Track and Field. At the age of 17, Alex was offered to attend New Paris University. Alex jumped at the chance, wanting to get away from her parents. Through the Dominion War, her mind began to drift towards Starfleet for the first time as she studied hard for her degree in Mechanical Engineering.

After the Breen attack on San Francisco, she volunteered to help with search and rescue operations. The sights, sounds, and smells from her time there stays with her to this day but she doesn't regret volunteering. Upon graduating from New Paris University, Alex was offered a job at a large Engineering Company. Alex soon learned that her parents had influenced the offer due to their positions. This infuriated Alex and in turn, she applied to and was accepted into Starfleet Academy against her parents' bitter protests.

Alex again studied hard, ignoring the many advances by many of the male (and some female) cadets. She also was a member of the Academy's Swimming and Track and Field Teams, where she performed exceptionally well. In 2383, Alex graduated Starfleet Academy and was assigned to the USS Galaxy as an Engineer.
