Fluent in Terran Standard (English) & Modern Betazoid, knows some Ancient Betazoid and a few Vulcan phrases (from sharing a dorm with a Vulcan at SFA)
A complete fitness nut, Ty enjoys most forms of exercise and will try any physical activity if given the chance, although his first love is indeed surfing. Is also fond of Earth history, particularly Egyptology. He also has an amazing singing voice, but few people ever get to hear it due to an astonishingly chronic form of stage fright.

Tias L'hari was born to his parents, Derge and Lahwana in the first quarter of 2350. Derge was a Starfleet Operations Officer assigned to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, while Lahwana was a physiotherapy lecturer working at the University of New South Wales. The middle of three children, Tias has an older brother called Stephan and a younger sister named Luisa. The names were chosen by Ty's mother, who preferred Earth names to that of her native Betazed, and Tias was so-called on his father's insistence that at least one of their children had a traditional betazoid name.

As the son of a respected and wealthy family, Ty enjoyed a gifted upbringing, although his father made sure that all L'hari children were well-grounded and thoroughly versed in Starfleet, an organization that he was hopeful his children would follow him into. In 2357, Derge managed to secure seats for the family at Utopia Planitia for the launch of the USS Galaxy, the then-Galaxy class prototype vessel. Unfortunately, the L'hari children were unable to attend as both Stephan and Tias came down with a case of Terrellian flu three days before the ship was launched. However they were able to attend the launch of the first production run Galaxy class ship, the USS Yamato some nine months later. It was after witnessing the starship departing Utopia for the first time that Ty decided he wanted to join Starfleet, a dream which stayed with him (on-and-off) until adulthood.

At the age of eleven, Ty's telepathic abilities came to maturity. Although his parents did all they could to help Ty adjust to hearing others' thoughts, Earth ultimately proved the wrong place for a budding psionic and just after his thirteenth birthday he was sent to stay with his grandparents on Betazed to attend the Valar Insititute and learn to properly master his abilities. However the delay in his receiving proper training ultimately resulted in somewhat muted abilities, and Ty's telepathy remains somewhat weak compared to others of his race.

Returning to Earth seven months later, Ty promptly discovered the simple pleasures of the beech and spent every possible moment down the cove close to the family home, becoming a proficient surfer and adapting to the "surfer-dude" life-style. Ty would probably have never gone to university if it hadn't been for a close friend, Erika Ford, who persuaded him to further his education and re-kindled his interest in Starfleet where his parents had failed and almost lost the will to live. Attending the University of Sydney, the young betazoid graduated in 2371 with a Bachelors in Science and Technology.

Going straight from university close to home to Starfleet Academy in San Fransisco was something of a shock for Ty, as it was the first time he had ever spent a prolonged period away from home and his family. Fortunately his friend Erika, who had also gotten into the Academy, was on hand to help him through this difficult time. His roommate, a Vulcan called Turek, also became a close friend, although the two did not get on initially. It was early during his studies that he received the only reprimand on his file, for using his highly prized hover-board in the campus gardens to show off to some of his class-mates. This was spotted by campus security and the hover board was confiscated for the rest of the term. Ty was also sternly lectured by the academy commandant about the incident, although this ticking off paled in comparison to the message he received from his mother on the subject.

In his fourth year at SFA, Ty requested a cadet cruise and was assigned to the Excelsior class USS Discovery to shadow the ships tactical analyst. The Discovery was one of several older ships assigned to monitor the Romulan neutral zone during the first part of the Dominion War, and Ty proved himself a model cadet during the cruise, learning much from the Discovery's crew. The ship was involved in several tactical situations during it's posting (mainly involving pirate activities), and this served well to demonstrate to the betazoid that a ship needn't be brand new to be capable of it's job.

Returning to Earth, Ty's graduation from the Academy became the singular most memorable event in his life, his completion of his studies and promotion to Ensign overshadowed by the devastating Breen attack on the Starfleet complex, which he and his friends witnessed first hand. Attempting to find cover, Ty was one of many badly injured when weapons fire leveled the Applied Sciences building, the blast throwing him and his friends nearly sixty metres from where they had been standing. All three graduates were eventually found in the remains of the Academy gardens, half-buried in debris, and Ty had to be treated for head trauma, a fractured pelvis and shattered shoulder.

The severity of his injuries almost cost him his new post onboard the Akira class USS Thunderchild, which had been due to leave shortly after his graduation. However the ship suffered a massive warp propulsion malfunction and was held back for repairs, allowing Ty to join the vessel before it left Spacedock. The delay meant that the ship was unable to attend the final assault on Cardassia, and was instead dispatched to the Briar patch on a two year patrol to maintain fleet presence in the system at request of the local population. After serving on the Thunderchild for three years he was transferred to Starbase 114 where his skills were put to work in the stations tactical analysis department, giving him a much better understanding of the theoretical application of tactical knowledge, before serving on the USS Discovery and then the USS Einstein.

The Einstein proved an incredible test of Ty's abilities when it was attacked by Orion pirates in a remote sector near the Klingon border. The resulting fight left the Einstein badly crippled but victorious, however not before the pirates had managed to board the ship and then been subsequently repulsed. Ty received medical treatment immediately after this for second-degree disruptor burns received during the boarding, and a commendation for an "unorthodox" combination of weapons fire which was instrumental in repelling the attacking ships.

However the damage to the Einstein was extensive, and the crew was disbanded as Utopia estimated that repairs would take 18 months to complete. Unsure of where he would be posted next, Ty expressed a preference in a larger front-line vessel, hoping that he might get to serve on a Nebula or Sovereign class. When his posting came through it exceeded his wildest expectations; he had been assigned to the Galaxy-III class USS Galaxy.

Ty is somewhat reserved around strangers, although those that get to know him find that he can let his hair down when needed. While his first love is indeed his job, Ty knows the importance of relaxation and tries to maintain a good work/life balance. However, it has been noted by two former CO's that this philosophy often gets thrown to the wind when workload increases, and he has been described as something of a workaholic at times. Socially, he is one of those people that has lots of acquaintances but only a few select friends, who he makes a concerted effort to keep in touch with even after their paths have diverged from his own. Like most Betazoids, he is not easy to anger, but those who manage to do so sufficiently can find themselves on the end of his scathing temper and caustic tongue.

While Ty can be the life and soul of the party, one of his favourite past-times is people watching, something he has developed as he has gotten older and realized drunken antics are not becoming of a Starfleet Officer. Also something of a fitness fanatic, he enjoys regular use of the ship's gym and holodeck, often accompanied by his dog, a german shepherd called Shadow that he acquired whilst serving onboard the Discovery, and one of the few beings he communicates with telepathically, describing the animal as "more open an honest than most sentient beings". There is definitely a deep bond between the two, and the Einstein's CO noted that immediately after the attack on the ship was over, Ty refused medical treatment until he after he had checked that his dog was alright.

In a discussion, Ty will often take the part of the listener, only speaking once he has thought carefully about what he wants to say, an approach that often sees him playing Devil's Advocate. While cool and efficient under fire, Ty's primary strength is organization and any work that he has time to prepare for is of a higher standard than those done on-the-fly. Under pressure he often demonstrates an ability to think outside the box, finding obscure solutions to tactical based problems by finding the root cause of the issue and working backwards.

Despite counseling following the Dominion assault on San Fransisco, Ty still occasionally has nightmares about the attack, often about being buried or burned alive. Due to this, a mild case of claustrophobia can sometimes manifest itself if he is in a confined space for a prolonged period, and anyone who has spent time with Ty in a Jeffries tube or shuttlecraft will have experienced the more agitated, snappy person that appears as a result of confinement.

Father: Derge L'hari (Commander), Chief of Resupply Operations, Utopia Planitia, Mars.
Mother: Lahwana L'hari: Physiotherapy Lecturer, University of New South Wales, Australia, Earth.
Brother: Stephan L'hari: Architect, Millennium Construction, Tokyo, Japan, Earth.
Sister: Luisa L'hari (Ensign): Weapons Systems Specialist, USS Timber Wolf.

Ty has one tattoo on the inside of his upper-left arm (just under the bicep). It spells "Wolf" in a runic text. He describes the response from his mother at his getting it to being "on par with the hoverboard incident". He had the tattoo to cover up the small scars left from the disruptor burns he received while serving on the Einstein. He also likes to wear an earring in his left ear when not on duty, a throw-back to his beach-bum days which he hasn't gotten around to telling his mother about yet.

Unusual in betazoids, Ty's eyes are actually blue, a condition caused by a recessive gene in betazoid DNA and passed down from his mother's side of the family. This feature earned him the nickname "Blue-Eyes" that he was known by at the Academy.

Recently, Ty has begun studying the Egyptian culture from Earth's ancient past. This started one night when he stumbled upon a record in the Starfleet database while bored but is now something that he regularly engages in. One of his dreams is to take a year out from the Fleet and spend it on a small boat going down the Nile and visiting all the historic monuments left by the Egyptian culture. This is probably something of a rebellion against the untold hours he was forced to study Betazoid history while staying with his grandparents when he was younger.
