Grant was born in a Cockney section of London where he learned at a young age to be a pickpocket for the tourists. When he was old enough he went into Starfleet, his dream. He attended as an enlisted man and worked his way up the ranks in the bowels of starships, never on the bridge. In 2360, Grant met and married a part-Klingon woman named B’reyl. They had two children in the next six years, a boy named Ranj and a girl named Regga. Grant loved his family very much, too much to leave them behind. They accompanied him on his assignments. In 2366, Grant was serving onboard the USS Saratoga when it faced the Borg at Wolf 359. He was on duty when his quarters and the entire deck they were on depressurized when exposed to space. His family was killed. Unknowing of his family’s fate until much later, Grant distinguished himself, saving lives as the ship fell apart around him. At the end, he was trapped under a conduit and two of his fingers were severed from his right hand. During the Battle of Wolf's-359, MM Grant was directly responsible for saving lives aboard the USS Saratoga at risk of death to himself, above and beyond the level of duty, and sustained injuries during the course of that rescue. In 2367, a Starfleet Board of Inquiry found his actions meritous of the Highest award the federation can bestow. After his recovery, Grant had no heart for further space travel and worked hard on a starbase. When the Galaxy was being staffed, Captain Bhrode (who knew him once long ago) asked him to return to a starship. |

Grant was always joking and
laughing. His crews always knew when he was around because he brought a
cloud of good cheer with him. His sense of humor tended to the bawdy and
low-brow but he was a great mimic and cracked people up with his impressions
of the officers.
After his wife and children died at Wolf 359, he blamed himself for not leaving them where it was safe. He withdrew into himself and hardly ever laughed. His wit became drier and he became known as the irascible old man, the grump. |

Grant prefers working the last shift of the day. He doesn’t like to deal with people who are awake and cheerful. | ||
