Teyri Jen was born on Bajor during the Occupation by the Cardassians to Teryi Deran and Ket. She doesn't remember very much of it, but she does remember seeing her parents. She remembers looking up at their faces as they smiled down at her, seeing the worry behind their eyes that they tried to hide from her. She remembers thinking that she wasn't too sure what they were so worried about. They had a house, food to eat, clothes to wear, and she had her toys and her friends. Daddy went to work every day, and Mommy stayed home to play with her, so her life was as it should be. What she remembers most vividly about her life on Bajor was one night was she was shaken from sleep by a strange man, dressed in rough and dirty clothing. She was scared, because she didn't recognize him. She didn't see her mommy and daddy anywhere, and she remembers being warned to stay quiet as she was wrapped in a blanket against the cold air outside. She clutched her rag dolly to her, only able to whimper as she was carried away from the only home she had ever known. As they passed through the front yard, she could make out two forms lying slumped on the ground in front of the door, but she couldn't make out any more detail then that. That last thing she remembered about that horrible night was being passed to someone, a young woman, as someone said "The Teyris were killed. They were discovered, somehow. She escaped. We need to get these kids off planet, now!" The rest of it was a little confusing, and fuzzy in her memory. She remembers leaving in a ship, that had a man with a tail as the captain. There were lots of other kids, and a crazy girl dancing around in big boots, and a sad male teenager, who was also Bajoran. She doesn't remember, although she has been told about it, being dropped off by the ship at a starbase, and then being placed into custody of a couple awaiting her on the base, named and Verru Kal and Selay. Her memories don't become strong again until she was about seven or eight, and had already been with the Verrus for a year and a half, living in a small Bajoran colony on the planet of Veldas. She was happy again, and her sleep was only rarely troubled by dark dreams, where she saw her mommy and daddy's faces again, turned away from her as she left her house. She adjusted fairly well to her new life, and gradually, living on Bajor began to recede into the back of her mind. Eventually, it was something that only surfaced in dreams, and when she was trying particularly hard to remember something about it. Jen did well in the public schooling on Veldas. Due to the agricultural nature of the planet, just as much emphasis was placed on farming and the out of doors as was on the normal aspects of schooling: reading, writing, languages, etc. Jen did well on Veldas, was popular, and loved by her family, but somehow, there was still something missing from her life. For a while, she found her eyes constantly being drawn to the skies, as she thought about the half-remembered flight from Bajor and the Kitty-Captain on his ship. There had been several times when she had been able to sneak away from the area where their beds were, and hunkered down somewhere on the bridge, to watch the crew moving about the ship. Finally, she came to a decision, and when she was 18, she announced to her parents that she was going to join the Academy, and go into Starfleet. It was no surprise to anyone who heard it, that this will o' the wisp had decided to seek her fortune, as it were, off the planet that had raised her. With good natured humor, the entire community kept an eye on her as she transmitted her application to the Academy in San Francisco on Earth, and cheered for her when she was accepted for the term beginning in the fall of 2375. She did well in the Academy, quickly acclimating to the new and strange surroundings. She majored in Flight Control and mastered the controls of many different types of ships, things as tiny as a starhopper, to the largest ship in the fleet. She graduated, after a relatively uneventful four years, and was assigned as a shuttlecraft pilot on the USS Venture. She conducted herself very well on the Venture, and got the shuttle out of several tight situations on away missions, flying by the seat of her pants and the grace of the Prophets. Once the Starfighter Corps was created in 2380, Jen obtained a referral from her CO on board the Venture, and applied for a transfer. She was accepted, and sent to training at the Saturn Flight School. Once she finished with that, doing fairly well for herself, she was assigned to the Firestar Squadron, based out of Starbase 212. Jen stayed there for two years, and then was made aware of an opening in Vanguard squadron, under the command of Major Corran Rex. She was ready for a change in scenery, and decided that a starship would suit her purposes very well, so she requested a transfer to the Vanguard squadron. She was accepted with dual specialties, doubling in the Navigation department when her presence as a fighter pilot wasn't needed, and in 2382, she moved over to the Galaxy. |

Jen is pretty easy going about most things, and gets along with pretty much everyone she comes across. The only things that manage to get under skin are gross stupidity, and arrogance, which makes her grit her teeth in the presence of Klingons. Most of the time, though, she will just remove herself from the situation, and go where she isn't being irritated. She was termed, and pretty correctly, by those in her home community as a will o' the wisp. The only thing that managed to snare her attention, and keep it caught, was flying. She is always up to try anything new, though. |
