Thral grew up moving from mining colony to mining colony with his parents, both who worked for a mining company. They both expected him to follow in one of their footsteps, but Thral was quickly bored by this life. He did pick up something of a love for geology from his father and enjoyed one part about living amongst miners, explosives. He'd spend hours in the rec facilities of the various colonies he lived in talking to the miners and was most interested in the demolitions specialists. When a recruiter for the Starfleet Marine Corps came to his school, Thral, without telling his parents until he was already on the transport ship, that he was joining up.

Thral has alternated during his time in the corps between front line combat units and teaching. Whenever there was a war to be fought, Thral was brought back to the front lines. He served in the front lines during the Tzenkethi War, the Tholian Border Wars of the late 2360s, the Klingon Conflict (including a tour on Ajilon Prime), and many of the major battles of the Dominion War including the battles for Betazed and Chin'toka. In fact, Thral's unit was one of the first to set foot on Cardassia at the end of the war. During the war he was wounded twice, received two Valorous Service Awards, and several other awards, including a Federation Order of Merit stemming from an attack on a Dominion strong point on Chin'toka.

After the War, Thral decided to go back to teaching. He'd seen enough combat and decided that it was time for him to settle down. However, it soon bored him and he requested another Field Assignment.

Like most Tellarites, Thral comes off as arrogant and rough toned, but he tries not to push the stereotype too far. The exception being when he's around Klingons, whom are occasionally afraid of him due to his extensive knowledge of curses from planets across the Alpha quadrant.

Like that which he works with, he's usually stable, but can blow up violently when pressed. Around the training barracks, he was known as a stern yet fair instructor that expected all who came through his class to come out successful, which it appears they have.

Has a pet Terran pot bellied pig named he calls "Artie", supposedly after someone he served with on Chin'toka.
