John Vambery, Jack to his family and friends, was born on Earth in the Abbington section of Northeast Philadelphia, North America on April 18, 2358. Jack's father was a famous linguist for the Federation who helped in the writing of several important treaties. His mother, Lara Kaminski, died at while Jack was only 5 leaving him to the care of his father who was absent quite frequently. Occasionally, Jack has travelled with his father to such worlds as Tellar, Andor and Risa. Mostly, though, Jack has remained behind on Earth with mostly relatives and friends to rear him. Jack's father, Abraham, was a distant man preoccupied with his Federation duties which has caused a rift between Jack and his father. Jack attended college briefly but dropped out before finally joining Starfleet. He has never been married.
Jack can be both moody and personable depending upon the moment which allows him for only a few close friends. He enjoys music immensely and plays the blues on a harmonica. He loves the old Earth game of baseball. He feels a bit out of place among his peers because of his age and late start in Starfleet. He can be bold but also second guesses himself quite a bit (much like Christopher Pike). Leadership is difficult for him but not impossible. He has a good sense of humor but is often moody which makes for few friends.Jack does not feel that he has lived up to the reputation or expectations of his father and hopes to make his own 'mark' on society. He enjoys being in Stellar Cartography but often feels confused behind the helm.
Jack wear spectacles when he reads as he is allergic to the eye remedies of the day.
