Simmer of the Mission

Everyone

I take a moment to applaud everyone that joined in this series, all of them have taken so much of their time, poured in so much of their heart into it, and the shear volume of effort they all put in leaves me in total awe. They have raised the bar to new heights, taken me and I hope the rest of you, on an emotional journey. To that end I nominate them all for simmer of the mission.

The authors of the Mission: 'Barbarians at the Gates'; Pat, Ian, Kate, M.J., Cliff and Juan

This mission has been an absolute joy to read and write. The shear amount of creative writing has been amazing. And throughout this series I have realized one thing: You only get out of it what you put into it. Myself and those that joined me to bring "Who Wants to Live Forever" before your eyes have put a lot of effort into it. I am humbled by the writers that joined me; I have been floored time and time again by what they have contributed to this series. Each one of them has surpassed themselves and none of that would have been possible without the Mission. So to that end I thank the authors of the Mission, for without them this would not have been possible. I thank them for letting us, the writers, shape the way of what is to come and for giving us such fantastic starting blocks and gentle direction throughout it.

Martin

Firstly to Martin, who through MSN chats and exchange of music sparked off this idea for the 24 hour epic last stand on Romulus. Without him, and his mention of Queen, this series would never have happened. I would be lost without him, his friendship and most of all his character, McDowell. He kept me on the edge on my seat through out the JP's we wrote with Dhani and Michael, hovering on the knife edge waiting, wondering what was going to transpire between the two. It was a total joy to write with him, as always our writing flowed seamlessly and I have to remind myself just how much of a challenge it is for him, as English is not his first language, yet because of the way he writes; I always forget. To Martin, thank you for the music, the anticipation and for just being you.

Robert S.

He has proved to me time and time again the versatility he contains within, not just writing one NPC, but creating what feels like hundreds, bringing each of them to life as individuals. His clips left me reeling, literally screaming out 'He did *not* just do that!', and also laughing my head off, ~Admiral? Woops!~ There are *so* many notable quotes from his fingertips that I don't think we would be able to fit them onto the site!

Michal

Michal, OMG! Again another writer that has had me completely transfixed to my computer screen, screaming out in laughter, shivering with cold chills… I am completely in awe of her skills and at the speed she can write. She has taken Faylin through so much in such a short space of time, and I admit it has been difficult at times to keep up with her. The storylines she has created before this mission and the one that she has weaved into this are so amazing that words do fail me. The character of Faylin has been through so much; love triangles, the death of her daughter, falling in love with Steven and to then fall apart. Her creation of the four D's was absolutely wonderful. She had me laughing my head off with their humor and transfixed in silence with the depth of her character.

Oded

Robert H.

Victor Krieghoff, in conjunction with Kit Jordan - their explorations of the supernatural nature of their characters was really interesting, its the character arc(s) that I think I care most about, probably because its one of the few character specific arcs thats truely scifi in nature. No offense to Robert, but his portrayal of Death Vic can, at times, be a little one-dimensional and/or repetitive, and therefore not as interesting as it should be, but the interaction with Prophet Kit was really fascinating.

Mieke

"Mieke totally surprised me through out this series and with what she has written since. In this episode she has given us a huge insight into the character of Branwen, exploring the Marine Psychologists mind and past through compelling reading."

"Branwen London: character driven writing, whether it be in a chapel or in a war."

Jonas

"WOW… Jonas. What more can I say? A hell of a lot actually! I adore him! Writing with Jonas has brought out something within myself that I didn't know existed. He completely floored me with what he wrote, how much he wrote and the unbelievable quality of his writing. I love Bailes style, I love his quips and jokes; again another writer that would fill the entire site with quotes. To write with Jonas is like watching a talented artist paint; poetry in motion, its thrilling, breath taking and totally humbling."

Stuart

"No one has surprised me more than Stuart. He has done some wonderful work with Michal in the story to their two characters, taking an average marine and really juicing him up with a love interest like never before. Yet as a writer he has shown his incredible skill, bringing to life the NPC Marine group with what was a touching and emotional scene of Norma Jeans death. But what knocked me off my chair, had my breath catching in my throat, hand covering my mouth, eyes misting and chest swelling with pride, admiration, shock and joy was the clip of the finale, part 26. He took the brief and created something so powerfully moving, more than I could have ever expected, surpassing all expectations to bring this series to a close. It was the exact note I wanted this series to end on and I could never have done it as well as he. Stuart does steal first place in my heart for the wonderful close to the series."

"My Galaxy nominee for Barbarians II simmer of the mission is Stuart. Steven Jonas found himself involved in two of the most interesting pieces of storytelling during the episode: His whirlwhind romance with Faylin McAlister, and the never-ending saga taking place on the planet. A combination of sim-wide interaction, character development, and mature writing earns him the award in my eyes."

"Stuart (Second Lieutenant Steven Jonas). It was just the way how he described his character in the whole war-period. Simply great. He was really into it. Kudos Stuart!"

Brian

"I think Brian should get some mention for the work he did with Elessidil this time around."

"Brian for his Exeter subplot - too often Starfleet is shown as being a happy, we-all-get-along bunch, and it was good to see petty dislikes and jealousies making an impact in a subplot."

"The stories he spearheaded were riveting and I enjoyed each and every one of them. Brian has a way with his stories that make them hard to put down and has shown a great deal about his character growing throughout the mission."

The most recognized writer...

-=/\=- Dru -=/\=-

"Dru for Galaxy (Dahnishta(sp?) - Who wants to live forever serial)"

"Dru and her crew who wrote the "Who Wants to Live Forever" Series. Why? The organization and complexity of it alone deserve that award. Not to mention the blend of characters, the conflict between Dhani and Baile. Bringing back the Dithparu? Awesome stuff! I even vote they get it by worth alone even if no one else nominates them. (I seriously doubt this.)"

"Dhani and Baile for their series....conflict and drama to the max."

"I nominate Dru for her outstanding writing ability. She kept me cemented to my computer screen every time a post came in from her. Her talent is amazing and I'm looking forward to reading more from her in the future."

"I guess I have to go with Dru (et al.) on this one. The way they managed to craft such a gripping side plot and keep it all together for as long as they did was amazing. Hard to give credit to only one person, but I'll go with Dru since she kinda coordinated it all (from what I understand)."

"I thought Oded would repeat, but Dru & Co. took it for "Who Wants to Live Forever" - it was a fantastic group effort. Brian came a close second, while Oded ended up with bronze."

"Clearly both Dru and Robert deserve some serious recognition for the phenomenal work on the "Who Wants to Live Forever" series. I have never seen anything quite so in-depth as those in the entire time I've been writing. Pat's "Odyssey", nor my own "Lament" and "Confessions" don't even come close to how much work was put into these in such a short period of time."

"Dru (Dhanishta Eshe) (Again) The "Who wants to live forever" series - nuff said really. She started/organised/prodded and kept it going despite how long it took and how big it grew. Outstanding work all the way."

" Dru - for her wonderful writing, and the great job she undertook off compiling all the bits and pieces and remaining two temperate with everybody at the same time."

"First runner up is Dru, for orchastrating her saga. As she said herself in the credits, it was quite lengthy (perhaps a bit too lengthy), but the mere challenge of leading eight(!!!) other writers and producing such a sheer amount of storytelling is incredible. Even though I only mention her as runner-up, I think she's the favorite for winning this one."

"Dru for the fabulous "Who Wants to Live Forever" series that I was able to be a part of. The writing she did with me while our characters were on the Klingon and Hydran ships and the stuff with Baile were totally amazing and I am eager to see how she continues to develop her character."
