USS Galaxy Timeline - From 1800 AD to 1966 AD

This timeline is used in conjunction with the USS Galaxy Email Fan Fiction Writers RPG as a reference guide. 1800, 12 January [reference stardate -2/0001.12]
- The treaty of Kanassarum is signed on Romulus, the warring factions having exhausted themselves and their meager resources by this time. The war produces no real winners [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The Klingons develop the S-2 graph unit FTL propulsion system [Starfleet Dynamics].
- On Romulus, at a meeting of the elder statesmen of all the city-states, the great scientist/statesman L'Deus of Portora proposes that the citystates band together to reach Remus. He shows without a doubt that limited resources would prevent any one city-state from accomplishing the goal on its own. He uses the old legends and combines it with the example of the past and the realities of the present to make his appeal. After seven months of effort, he gives up in disgust. The meeting breaks up without the unification needed [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1802, 21 April [reference stardate -2/0204.21]
- Dinalla attempts a launch to establish a semi-permanent space station. The vessel, using inferior fuel, explodes on the pad [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The Second Conference of Portora is held, with representatives from all city-states. L'Deus refuses to lead the conference or to even participate except for answering questions. The conference lasts four months. Seeing that alone their city-states could not reach the stars, the representatives agree to join together [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1803, 10 February [reference stardate -2/0302.10]
- The D'Vatta ("Great Paper") is signed, unifying all city-states on Romulus into one organization, the Bresasam Rom'lnz ("Romulan Confederation"). The debates over the form the government will take will last less than four months [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- L'Deus is elected the first Emperor of the Romulan Confederation by the Imperial Senate after the Senators convince him that the position is part of his destiny [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Because of its location central to needed resources, Kanassarum, on Romulus, is chosen as the site of the new united space effort [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1804, 03 February [reference stardate -2/0402.03]
- Lt. Stephen Decatur, Jr. commands the U.S.S. "Enterprise" sea-going schooner. This ship's figurehead will end up displayed on the rec deck of the starship "Enterprise" more than four centuries later in 2264. The retired Captain Kirk, in 2292, will build a model of this ship in his San Francisco residence [TOS 13: "The Wounded Sky", TOS 74: "The Fearful Summons"].
- The first (Romulan) Confederation manned flight is launched [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The construction of a large, Romulan orbital station begins during this period of many manned flights [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
?? Centuries ago
- The inhabitants of Thasus still have bodies of solid matter, but slowly evolve to forms of pure energy [TOS: "Charlie X"].
- The ruling family of the Ramatis star system is discovered to lack the gene required for the sense of hearing. A system is developed where a "chorus" of interpreters both hear and speak for members of the ruling family [TNG: "Loud as a Whisper"].
- The people of Ardana build a magnificent city, Stratos, in the clouds [TOS: "The Cloud-Minders"].
- A civil war breaks out on Daled IV. The planet that rotates only once per year, so that one hemisphere is in perpetual light and the other in eternal darkness, which has lead to the evolution of two very different species [TNG: "The Dauphin"].
- The T'Lani and Kellerun people declare war on each other [DS9: "Armageddon Game"].
1805 AD
An ancestor of Capt. Picard takes part in the Battle of Trafalgar [Star Trek VII: "Generations"].
1821 AD
Writer John Keats dies in Rome on Earth. Much of his work has been inspired by a noncorporeal entity called Onaya [DS9: "The Muse"].
1809 AD
- Abraham Lincoln is born on Earth, the future 16th president of the United States of America. In the 23rd Century, Lincoln will be one of James Kirk's heroes. The Excalbians will re-create a duplicate of Lincoln in 2263 for their study of Human concepts [TOS 10: "Web of the Romulans", TOS: "The Savage Curtain"].
- The American writer Edgar Allan Poe is born on Earth. He will write the popular Terran poem 'The Raven'--which Charles Evans will force Spock to partially quote in 2260. In 2369, Captain Picard will intrigue the "Enterprise" officers with this writer and inspire several to read his works. Lt. Worf will consider using Poe's literature as bedtime story reading for his son, Alexander [TOS: "Charlie X", TNG 35: "The Romulan Strategem"].
- The English evolutionist Charles Darwin is born on Earth. The genetic research station on Gagarin IV will be named after him and at least one scout class [TNG: "Unnatural Selection", Starfleet Prototype].
1812 AD
Charles Dickens, a novelist, is born on Earth. He will write the novel 'A Tale of Two Cities,' a much later edition of which will be presented to Admiral Kirk by Captain Spock as a birthday present in the 23rd Century. He will also write 'A Christmas Carol' which, in 2367, will be acted out by Lt. Commander Data on the "Enterprise's" holodeck [Star Trek II: "The Wrath of Khan", TNG: "Devil's Due"].
1812, June [reference stardate -2/1206]
- A large orbital space station is established to be used as a platform for the Remus effort [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The first unmanned Romulan probe lands on Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1813 AD
Lt. William Burrows commands the seagoing vessel U.S.S. "Enterprise," the United States schooner [TOS 6: "The Abode of Life"].
1815 [Y -300]
The Krebiz Capitalist Alliance (KCA) Star Fleet, a small power in the Outlands between the Klingon Empire and the Kzinti, launches the "Clipper" class frigate, "Pincer" class destroyer, "Mandible" class light cruiser, "Claw" class heavy cruiser, and the "Kraken" class dreadnought [Starfleet Battles].
1818, 13 November [reference stardate -2/1811.13]
The first manned mission lands on Remus, with only one astronaut aboard the vessel. S'Tanet, since become not only famous for her adventure but intertwined with legend, reports that the surface has a breathable atmosphere and life [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1819, 03 April [reference stardate -2/1904.03]
- A temporary research facility is established at Levitasz, the site of S'Tanet's historic landing; it is abandoned one year later [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Herman Melville is born. He will write the novel 'Moby Dick'--a novel in Khan Noonian Singh's future book collection, which will also be quoted by Khan shortly before his death in the 23rd Century [Star Trek II: "The Wrath of Khan"].
1820 AD
- The Great Blight: Saurian virus spreads throughout known worlds [Starfleet Medical Reference Manual].
- In 2371, Captain Picard will visualize a sextant from this era in the Nexus [Star Trek VII: "Generations"].
- A large, manned station is constructed orbiting Remus. This base is continually enlarged over succeeding years, serving as the launch facility for further expeditions to Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Seventeen manned and 36 unmanned landings are made on Remus over the next 8 years. None of the manned bases, used primarily as centers for mapping, testing, and research expeditions, lasts for more than one year [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1822 AD
- The Bajoran wormhole again undergoes subspace inversion [DS9: "Meridian"].
- Ulysses S. Grant is born on Earth. In 2263, the Excalbian simulacrum of Abraham Lincoln will be note the similarity between Captain James Kirk and General Grant [TOS: "The Savage Curtain"].
1829, 18 February [reference stardate -2/2902.18]
- The first permanent colony, called Adrennan, is established on Remus. Thirty-seven Hundred settlers arrive aboard three shuttles from the orbiting station [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Remus colony of Biscae is established near large mineral deposits [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The port of Rinum is established on Remus, destined to become the major planetside port, used to export resources both to the orbiting station and to Romulus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1830 AD
The Vegan Tyranny conquers many pre-Federation worlds [Star Trek II: "The Wrath of Khan"].
1831, 01 March [reference stardate -2/3103.01]
- Levitasz, the site of the first manned landing on Remus, is established as a permanent settlement [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
-The next two decades see the first four colonies on Remus grow into citystates, recognized alongside those on Romulus. Population and trade grow geometrically, and the Remus government at Biscae is forced to allow other colonies to be established. The other eight city-states on Remus were established to provide homes for the rapid influx of settlers [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- In the Gamma Quadrant, the planet Meridian dimensionally shifts back into normal space for a brief period of time [DS9: "Meridian"].
- Shanerea colony is established on Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1832 AD
Lewis Carol (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), an English writer, is born on Earth. He will become famous for 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking Glass.' These works will be popular with the "Enterprise" officers in the 23rd Century and Amanda Grayson, and also acknowledged by Chief O'Brien in the 24th Century--and his "Mirror" universe duplicate [TOS: "Shore Leave", TAS: "Once Upon A Planet", DS9 7: "Warchild", DS9: "Through The Looking Glass"].
1833, 27 October [reference stardate -2/3310.27]
Hetharri and Yenallan settlements on Remus file papers establishing permanent colonies the same day, beginning the tradition of friendly rivalry between them [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1834, 15 January [reference stardate -2/3401.15]
- The first expedition to the planet S'Latas departs from D'Raxna station in orbit about Remus. The expedition consists of 9 scientists, 2 astronaut/ pilots, and 5 military/security specialists [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- The S'Latas expedition arrives in orbit about the third planet and finds it lifeless and uninhabitable. One of the planet's two moons, however, has a very thin atmosphere and mollusk-like primitive life. The moon is named S'Tanet [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- A small shuttle with 2 military/security specialists, 1 pilot, and 2 scientists lands on S'Tanet, discovering it to be rich enough in resources to make domed facilities worthwhile [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1835 AD
Samuel Langhorne "Mark Twain" Clemens, American author, is born on Earth. He will encounter members of the starship "Enterprise" in 1893 and even tour the ship in 2369. His works will be a favorite of Benjamin Sisko and Jean-Luc Picard [TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II", DS9 7: "Warchild", TNG Giant Novel 15: "Dark Mirror"].
1838 AD
The British steamer "Great Western" crosses the Atlantic from Bristol to New York in fifteen days, the first fully steam-powered vessel to make the crossing. Another ship arriving the same day from London took nineteen days. The American newspapers print: 'The commercial, moral, and political effects of this increased intercourse, to Europe and this country, must be immense.' This same year, the Boers slaughter three thousand Zulus in Natal, and British forces invade Afghanistan. Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) will explain these historical events to Zefram Cochrane in 2061 [TOS Giant Novel 18: "Federation"].
1839 AD
Ottoman forces invade Syria. Britain and China start the Opium War. Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) will explain these historical events to Zefram Cochrane in 2061 [TOS Giant Novel 18: "Federation"].
1840, January [reference stardate -2/4001]
- The moons of the planets D'Lanam and Ulunam are found to be relatively rich in mineral resources, starting immense mining efforts there by the Romulans [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- On Earth, the Treaty of London unites Britain, Austria, Prussia, and Russia against Egypt. Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) will explain this historical event to Zefram Cochrane in 2061 [TOS Giant Novel 18: "Federation"].
1841, 28 January [reference stardate -2/4101.28]
- The first manned starfaring expedition is launched to the nearest star, Perhonies, from Romulus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Patarrasz settlement is established on Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Edgar Allan Poe creates the character of C. Auguste Dupin, the first fictional detective. According to Lt. Commander Data, it can be argued that all fictional detective characters can trace their lineage to Dupin, including the character of Dixon Hill [TNG 35: "The Romulan Strategem"].
1843, October [reference stardate -2/4310]
The settlements of Destallasz and Valassa are established on Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1849, 17 March [reference stardate -2/4903.17]
- A habitable planet is found in the Perhonies system. The planet is in an earlier stage of development than Romulus and has no intelligent life forms [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Crazy Horse, a Lakota Sioux Indian chief, is born. At least one starship will carry his name in the 24th Century [TNG: "Descent"].
1851 [reference stardate -2/5100]
- The Nabatha colony is established on Remus [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Several expeditions are launched simultaneously from the Romulus system to neighboring star systems in a search for usable planets and valuable resources. All are launched coreward, in keeping with the "Road to the Stars" philosophy [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1860, 12 February [reference stardate -2/6002.12]
- Biscae is made the capital city-state of Remus. Its mineral deposits have made it the fastest-growing colony on Remus for forty years or more, as well as the planet's commercial center [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- On planet UFC 892-IV (Magna Roma) the Rome-like civilization experiences its last war [TOS: "Bread and Circuses"].
- A Chronicle is started by a village on Boral II, logging the evolution of their society [TNG: "Homeward"].
1861, 29 February [reference stardate -2/6102.29]
The expedition to Gorwah lands on a planet dominated by a humanoid life form having a civilization not as advanced as the Romulans'. The people are conquered easily, making Gorwah the first culture to be absorbed into the Confederation [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1863 AD
The Nexus temporal energy ribbon again passes through our galaxy [Star Trek VII: "Generations"].
1864 AD
Colonel Thadeus "Old Iron Boots" Riker, in command of the 102nd New York during General Sherman's March on Atlanta poses for a photo with the philosopher Q (Quin). Q carried Riker back from the front line, saving his life [VOY: "Death Wish"].
1865 AD
The Zeator encounter the Slaughtered Worlds and their ships begin to vanish. They temporarily retreat from space long enough to build up their weapons technology and establish a defense around their homeworld [TOS 32: "Chain of Attack"].
1867 AD
- The Klingon Empire (based in 2264) attempts to alter Earth's history by assassinating Aaron Stemple, a minor government official. The attempt fails due to Commander Spock's intervention [TOS 23: "Ishmael"].
- Hundreds of criminals from the Ux-Mal system are separated from their physical bodies and sent into exile on the moon of Mab-Bu VI [TNG: "Power Play"].
- The inhabitants of the planet Alaj develop spaceflight [TNG 14: "Exiles"].
- The moons of Peliar Zel are colonized [TNG: "The Host"].
- Spock arrives on Earth from the future to prevent the Klingons from altering history [TOS 23: "Ishmael"].
1869 AD
Hatheby's of Earth and Cis-Lunar is formed during this era on Earth [TNG 33: "Balance of Power"].
1871 AD
The planet Krantin begins to emerge from a long agricultural stage. Another Krantin, located in an alternate reality, develops matter transmission and unknowingly disposes of its garbage by transposing it to its counterpart world. The Plague, an energy field effect, begins to pollute Krantin's atmosphere in this continuum [TNG 36: "Into the Nebula"].
Around 1871 AD
The Cardassian Union is formed [DS9: "Defiant"].
1872 AD
The Bajoran wormhole again undergoes subspace inversion [DS9: "Meridian"].
1873
On Zondar, the prophet Ontear leaves his writings to his student, Suti [New Frontier 5: "Martyr"].
1874

- The Trill, Rex, is born on the Trill homeworld. He will later be hosted by Corran Alansin, and serve on the USS Galaxy as an Operations Officer in the 24th century.
1875 AD
The office of offworld exploration is created on Vulcan. Prefect Savar proclaims "Destruction before detection" as the first application of the Vulcan Prime Directive [TOS Giant Novel 2: "Strangers from the Sky"].
1875, [reference stardate -2/7500]
- By this time, the Romulan Confederation has established colonies on 27 planets coreward [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- This is also approximately the time when the Romulans encounter the planet Andor. By luck, the Romulans' defensive shields collapse and they are picked off by the primitive Andorian weapons. The only survivor is the Romulan Emperor Vitellius. The Devil's heart falls into the hands of Telev an Andorian healer, who uses its power to cure the victims of the Scourge. The stone will become known as Telev's Bane up until the first Andorian/Ferengi contact. The Ferengi will threaten the Andorian people with whole-sale slaughter if not provided with trade merchandise. The Devil's Heart is among the items of tribute which will be traded by the Ferengi to the technologically primitive world Kronos [TNG Giant Novel 13: "Devil's Heart"].
1879 AD
Albert Einstein is born on Earth. One of the greatest physicists of Humanity, responsible for Relativity, James Kirk will rank him with Dr. Richard Daystrom in the 2260s. A timeslip cruiser class in the 2270s will be named Einstein in his honor. In the 2370s, aboard the "Galaxy" class "Enterprise," Einstein will be generated in holodeck programs by Lt. (j.g.) Barclay and Lt. Commander Data [TOS: "The Ultimate Computer", TNG: "Qpid", TNG: "Gambit, Part I"].
1881, 26 October
In Tombstone, Arizona on Earth at 5 P.M. the gunfight at the O.K. Corral between the Clantons and Earps takes place. Nearly four centuries later in 2263 this famous gunfight will serve as a template for the execution of an "Enterprise" landing party making first contact with the Melkots [TOS: "Spectre of the Gun"].
1888 AD
The Redjac entity kills six m women in London, England on old Earth, with no detection [TOS: "Wolf in the Fold"].
1889, July 21
Arizona ranger John Dawson discovers an ancient transporter within a Hopi ruin in southwest Colorado. He leaves behind his Colt .45 Peacemakers on the planet Equinox [Strange New Worlds V - "The Peacemakers"].
Prior to 1890 AD
Guinan settles on Earth, concealing her alien origin [TNG: "Time's Arrow"].
1893, 13 August
- Devidians from the 24th century steal neural energy from inhabitants of San Francisco. Data accidentally time travels to the year 1893 too, followed by several of the Enterprise-D crew who successfully prevent the Devidians from further actions in Earth's past. They also meet Guinan and Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain [TNG: "Time's Arrow"].
- "Jack the Ripper" begins his reign of terror in London, Earth. He will claim seven 'official' victims via taunting notes to the newspapers of the day. Scotland Yard is officially founded to catch him. When records are unsealed in 2005, it is discovered that 'Jack' claimed more than thirty victims between 1893 and 1899, and they were hushed up by the fledgling police, for fear of public hysteria.
1897 AD
Johannes Brahms (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) "dies" [TOS: "Requiem For Methuselah"].
1898 AD
Amelia Earhart, Terran aviator, is born on Earth. In 1937 she will be abducted by the Breyori [VOY: "The 37's"].
1900 AD
- The Steam Age on Earth: electricity and electronics are developed [Starfleet Dynamics].
- At this point, the Romulans have 73 colonies and have conquered 27 other planets, resulting in 100 Romulan settlements. The Romulan Confederation changes its name to Latasam Stelai Rom'lnz (Romulan Star Empire), which translates literally as "Star Road of the People." It takes the form of the government which will last through the 23rd Century [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- A captured weaponeer of a conquered nation offers to make Kling a bargain: a certain secret in exchange for wealth and power. Kling readily agrees and in short order possesses the secrets of atomic energy and the atomic bomb which will enable him to rule the entire planet Kazh [The Best of Trek 1].
- On Earth, James Hilton, novelist, is born. He will write 'Lost Horizon,' a novel which will eventually be noted by Captain James Kirk [TOS: "The Paradise Syndrome"].
- L. Frank Baum writes the novel 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.' A motion picture will follow in 1939. In 2365, Data will hum a song from this film. In 2367, Dr. Crusher will quote from it. The computer-generated clown from the Delta Quadrant's hibernation pods will also reference this work [TNG: "The Schizoid Man", TNG: "Remember Me",VOY: "The Thaw"].
1901, October [reference stardate -1/0110]
- The former Northern Empire (now known as the komerex dexiKlingon, or "Empire of the True People") develops nuclear weapons and attacks the capital of their land-based foe with their one operational bomb. Within three years, the land-dwellers, sparked to new heights of outrage and hatred, overwhelm the sea-dwellers completely. In the end, many seadweller leaders switch sides and become naval commanders in the komerex Klingon ("Klingon Empire"), which soon controls the entire planet. In this era, the first Klingon space explorations take place. Scientists had long theorized that Kibek was the only other habitable planet in the system, and it is colonized in this period [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
- Clark Gable, movie actor, is born on Earth. In 1930, Edith Keeler will be on her way to attend a Clark Gable movie when killed in an automobile accident [TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever"].
1902 AD
- Sean O'Brien leads an eleven month long Pennsylvania coal miners strike. A union man, he will die a hero and be given the biggest funeral in all of Western Pennsylvania [DS9: "Bar Association"].
- The Nexus temporal energy ribbon again passes through our galaxy [Star Trek VII: "Generations"].
1904, January [reference stardate -1/0401]
The Romulans are attacked spinward by the Corillians, a race previously unknown to them. Having little force in this direction, the Romulans sustain heavy losses. The war lasts six months, after which the Corillians, a much less populous culture than the Romulans, are conquered. They are the first space-faring culture to be subjugated by the Star Empire [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1906 AD
- The Susuru's warp drive breaks down. They are forced to travel through space at sublight speeds. In 200 years they will make planetfall on the first marginally habitable world: Okeanos (Eris V) [TOS 66: "From the Depths"].
- The Corillian Incident points out the necessity of watching all directions, not just the coreward direction of main expansion. Because of this, the Romulan Empire enters a period of consolidation, strengthening their existing borders, which will span the next 80 years [FASA Roleplaying Guide, Second Edition].
1907 AD
"Typhoid Mary" Mallon is identified as a carrier of Typhoid Fever. Dr. Sevrin will be considered a 23rd Century Typhoid Mary by Dr. McCoy. In the 24th Century, Captain Picard will fear that Master Scientist Skel may be a Typhoid Mary carrier of the "demon" plague [TOS: "Way to Eden", TNG 40: "Possession"].
1908, 30 June
An uncrewed Vulcan probe prevents a cometary fragment from wiping out half of central Europe by diverting the body to explode over an uninhabited region of Siberia, flattening and burning the forest [TOS Giant Novel 7: "Prime Directive", TOS: "That Which Survives"].
1914 AD
After having retreated from spaceflight for decades, the Zeator begin to cautiously move back into space towards the Slaughtered Worlds [TOS 32: "Chain of Attack"].
1917 AD
The Bekeem, the first dissident group, are banished from the planet Alaj. At least 11 more will follow in the next half millennia [TNG 14: "Exiles"].
1918 AD
The Spanish flu breaks out when the first troops return home, showing the initial cases [Star Trek Lost Era 6: "Catalyst of Sorrows"].
1920 AD
Isaac Asimov is born on Earth. He will theorize the Positronic Brain and the Laws of Robotics. In the 24th Century, Dr. Noonian Soong will make Asimov's fictious Positronic Brain a reality with his androids Lore and Data. In the 23rd Century, copies of Asimov's science fiction novels will be kept in James Kirk's cabin on Centaurus (Alpha Centauri IV) [TNG: "Datalore", TOS 28: "Crisis on Centaurus"].
1920's
On the search for Sisko, Bashir and Dax, Kira and O'Brien materialize in San Francisco for a brief moment [DS9: "Past Tense"].
1926 AD
Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom, astronaut, is born on Earth. He will be one of the first Human casualties of the space age and at least one starship (and perhaps a class) will be named in his honor in the 23rd Century [Star Trek III: "The Search for Spock"].
1927 AD

Seven women are killed in Shanghai, China by an entity previously known as "Jack the Ripper" and later known as "Redjac" [TOS: "Wolf in the Fold"].
1934 AD
The first short story featuring fictional detective Dixon Hill is published in Amazing Detective Stories Magazine [TNG: "The Big Good-Bye"].
1936, 23 February
A Ford automobile manufactured this year will be found in 2371 by the U.S.S. "Voyager" in the Delta Quadrant. Apparently it will belong to one of the abducted Humans from 1937 [VOY: "The 37's"].
1937, 02 July
Over 300 humans, including aviator Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan who disappear over the Pacific Ocean, are abducted by an alien race called the Briori to the Delta Quadrant and will be taken to a Class L planet for use as slaves. Earhart and 7 additional Humans, however, will remain in cryostasis until late 2371.. Later, a revolt of the humans succeeds, but the ship that could have taken them home is destroyed [VOY: "The 37's"].
1938 AD
- An American buffalo-head nickel minted this year will fall into the possession of Dr. McCoy by the year 2264 [TOS 50: "Doctor's Orders"].

- The existance of Anti-Matter is first postulated on Earth by Albert Einstein and other members consulting to the 'Manhattan Project.'

1940 AD, July
16 year-old Benny Russell attends the annual fair at Flushing Meadow, where he views a strange orb allegedly of extraterrestrial origin [DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars"].

- The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise, under command of Captain Osborne B. Hardison, supports Task Force 16 against Japanese attacks at Guadalcanal during World War II [Enterprise Logs: "World Of Strangers"].
- Pavel Chekhov, transported by Weyland of Cragon V, fights for his life in Stalingrad during WWII. He is awarded Hero Of The Soviet Union, First Class [TOS 52: "Home Is the Hunter"].
1943 AD
The planet Vulcan begins observing Earth. No official contacts are made [TOS Giant Novel 2: "Strangers from the Sky"].
1944 AD

- World War II, during which 11 million will die on Earth (according to Spock's reckoning) is the setting of Nazi Germany ("the most efficient state Earth ever knew") which Professor John Gill will use as an example on the planet Ekos in the 2260s. Captain Kirk will dress Dr. McCoy with the uniform of a gestapo doctor (of Colonel rank) in 2262 based upon this year in the historical computer [TOS: "Patterns of Force"].
- Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) will quote from this year's media in 2061: 'Television offers the soundest basis for world peace that has yet been presented. International television will knit together the peoples of the world in bonds of mutual respect' [TOS Giant Novel 18: "Federation"].
1945, December 5
Naval lieutenant Charles Taylor leads a squadron of Avenger torpedo bombers on a training mission into the Bermuda Triangle. All five planes vanish into a spatial anomaly [Strange New Worlds IV: "Flight 19"].
1947, 02 July
Following sabotage and time-warping from 2372, "Quark's Treasure" crashes in Roswell, New Mexico on Earth. Quark, Rom, and Nog are taken into custody. Recreating the conditions of the time warp via an atomic bomb detonation, they escape back to 2372. Official government records deny the existence of the aliens and their spacecraft [DS9: "Little Green Men"].
1950 AD
The Atomic Age on Earth: fission power and weaponry are developed [Starfleet Dynamics].
1953, October
Science fiction writer Benny Russell pens the story of an alien space station called "Deep Space Nine." However, due to issues of racism, the story will not be published [DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars"].
1953, 14 December
Benny Russell is institutionalized and is treated by Dr. James Wykoff. He will be released in four months after completing his Deep Space Nine serial story [Strange New Worlds IV: "Isolation Ward 4"].
1955 AD
- Captain Kirk, having been subjected to the Klingon mind-sifter in 2264 and transported through the Guardian of Forever, is temporarily institutionalized on Earth [TOS Original Novel 2: "The New Voyages"].
- The first legitimate, two-dimensional photograph is taken of a Vulcan probe ship by a Terran. By 2018, the number of photographs will total at least 18--and all will be dismissed as frauds and hoaxes. [GAL]
- The Designers account for other UFO cases, especially abductions and extraterrestrial contacts, not to mention the crashlanding of "Quark's Treasure" less than a decade ago in Roswell, New Mexico [TOS 5: "The Prometheus Design", DS9: "Little Green Men"].
1957, 04 October
"Sputnik 1" becomes Earth's first artificial satellite. It has a profound affect on the world and enables Russia to take the lead in early Terran space development [Spaceflight Chronology].
1959 AD
- Khan Noonian Singh, the Earth's first "eugenic superman," is born. Genetic experimentation will continue in secret and, by 1990, some 190 "supermen" will have been bred. [TOS]
- The progenitors of the "supermen" are an international group of scientists with labs in Haiti, Pakistan, Chad, and a headquarters in North Yemen. Working in the poorest countries of Earth during the next couple decades, making it easy to bribe officials into silence and hire Human guinea pigs, Ralph Offenhouse will unknowingly supply much of their equipment [TNG 30: "Debtor's Planet"].
1960 AD
The "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" becomes the standard to measure patients mental status through to at least the 25th century [Star Trek Lost Era 6: "Catalyst of Sorrows"].
1961 AD
- "Vostok 1" carries the first man into space. The craft orbits for 108 minutes (one revolution) at an apogee of 176.3 km. This historic first keeps Russia in the lead in the 'space race' [Spaceflight Chronology].
- The United States nuclear aircraft carrier "USS Enterprise" (CVN-65) enters service, another of the many vessels named "Enterprise" which will be honored in both the 23rd and 24th Centuries aboard her successors to the name. In 1986, Commanders Chekov and Uhura will absorb high-energy photons from this vessel's reactor to recrystallize their own vessel's dilithium, while the "Enterprise" is docked at Alameda [Star Trek I: "The Motion Picture", TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", Star Trek IV: "The Voyage Home"].
- The United States launches "Mercury 3," a suborbital 15 minute flight in preparation for its first orbital mission next year [Spaceflight Chronology].
1962 AD
- In the Andromeda Galaxy, the Kelvan Empire launches a manned probe ship to explore our galaxy as a prelude to conquest [TOS: "By Any Other Name"].
- On the Klingon homeworld, the Kamorh'dag (Northern continent clans/Sta Mura) ascend to power. Their grip on the Empire will last for little more than ten generations [TOS 58: "Faces of Fire"].
1963 AD
"Vostok VI" carries the first woman into space, staying aloft for 45 revolutions. Maneuvering the capsule she approaches to within 5 kilometers of the companion vessel "Vostok V" [Spaceflight Chronology].
1964 AD
Commander Sisko will be fond of baseball's World Series this year [DS9: "The Adversary"].
1965 AD
- The first 'space walk' is accomplished by Aleksei Leonov aboard the "Voskhod II" spacecraft [Spaceflight Chronology].
- The instability of Tau Lyra is first observed during this era [TOS 71: "Crossroad"].
- The accelerated United States space program has five successful "Gemini" missions this year [Spaceflight Chronology].
- A questionable Borg artifact may or may not have been created this era. Dating of Thorsen's artifact in 2366 will place its age at 400 years [TOS Giant Novel 18: "Federation"].
Around 1966
Scientists on Miri's planet begin a "life prolongation project," creating a virus intended to halt the aging process. The project is a disaster and results in the deaths of all the adults on the planet. The children survive, aging at a reduced rate, although the virus causes their death upon entering puberty [TOS: "Miri"].
