The Early Years: Vulcan (2353 – July 61)
In April of 52 Kerenza Eshe fell pregnant with twins. In June she was admitted into hospital with complications that threatened to take not only her babies lives but hers also. The doctors were unable to determine the cause of her condition but after several months in the hospital Kerenza stabilized and later discharged herself. Tansons placement at the Academy came to an end and he was relocated to a research laboratory in City of Vulcana Regar in the costal province of Raal, located by the Voroth Sea. On the 30th day of the first month of the following year, 53, against all the odds, Kerenza gave birth to identical twins; Dhanishta Ilywannah at 6am and Chandrakala Lakshmi, at 6:53 am, both happy and healthy.
When the twins were nine months old Kerenza returned to the Vulcan Science Academy (graduating in 55, she continued to study at the Academy for a further two years.) With both parents away regularly, Dhanishta and her sister were looked after by nannies throughout most of their early childhood. As the girls grew a noticeable difference between them became apparent. While they were identical in almost every way, they were monozygotic twins, Dhanishtas hair darkened as she got older, where as Chandrakala's lightened to a shade of red. Both girls had bright green eyes from birth and while Chandrakalas stayed the same, with age Dhanishtas eyes darkened to a deep bottle green almost verging on black like her mothers.
In 2358 Dhanishta and Chandrakala attended the Vulcan School of First Thought and Logic in Vulcana Regar, along with the other local children. In February of 59 Dhanishta began to receive additional tuition and guidance from the renowned, retired, Master Sark of the Hakihr Way. (Sark descended from a martial order of Vulcan Mindlords. The disciples of Hakihr took to heart Suraks famous saying "The mind controls the body; control the mind and the body will follow." They practice mind-body unification in the hope of preventing hormonal surges or other reactions that might provoke an emotional response. Adepts of Hakihr can teach the use of biofeedback techniques to strengthen the mesiofrontal cortex, the area of the brain associated with self-control. Sark also specialized in telepathic battle, trauma recovery and telekinetics.) By the age of eight Dhanishta had absorbed everything Sark had to teach her, surpassing his own talent for mental control and focus. The fundamental teachings that he provided her would be the foundations of her core personality for years to follow.
In January of 61 Dhanishta underwent the Kahs-wan in Cheleb-khor. Crossing through Vulcan's Forge from east to west, the journey takes approximately ten days, however Dhanishta made it in seven. (The Kahs-wan is a long standing Vulcan tradition where a child is left in the wilderness to fend for themselves.) Dhanishta has never told anyone of her experience, although it is apparent she did indeed survive.
In June of 61 Tanson was offered a position at the Kem'alta Institute which coincided with Kerenzas first placement: an archaeological dig on Trillius Prime. The couple jumped at the chance to introduce the twins to part of their heritage and soon enough the Eshe family were relocating to the capital city of Trill; Leran Manev.
The Early Years: Trillius Prime (July 61 – Dec 64)
Dhanishta found her brief three years on Trill to be an eye-opener, having grown accustom to the emotionless; focused, dedicated, respectful (and, although none would admit it: fiercely proud) Vulcans, she now found herself upon an alien world, one which technically she was a part of. She learned to adapt by drawing parallels from Vulcan to Trill; both had a culture spanning centuries, both had their secrets; there were many aspects to Vulcan traditions that even Dhanishta herself was not privy to, and upon Trill, again there were facets that the governing body had kept shielded from the outside world for many years. Dhanishta found the custom of 'joining' to be extremely fascinating and the Trill custom of honoring elders, respect and reverence for the past something that she could cling to as it was already engrained into her.
Three months prior to her twelfth birthday Dhanishta underwent the preliminary screening test for symbiosis evaluation. (It was custom for all Trill children to take the test on their twelfth birthday.) It was more of a gesture towards her father, who had himself whished to be joined but was a 'triple-niner', like so many others upon Trill. Dhanishta, being a hybrid, was expectedly rejected. Although her suitability for joining was actually quite high, along with most of the population of Trill, however because of her mixed heritage and the long standing, upheld, myth that only ten percent were suitable for joining she was turned away. Despite her rejection this act of respect for her father's customs did bring her closer to her father with whom she was distant, unfortunately it did nothing to solidify the growing gulf between her and her mother.
Dhanishta at this time was very much like a Vulcan child. She had been taught logic above emotion and learned at a very early age how to repress emotion, this lent her towards study and exploration, however her parent's next posting was not going to be as easy as the last. While the other children of Trill regarded her as critical, cold, detached and subdued, still, they accepted her as one of their own. Her dark green eyes covered up her Betazoid heritage, a trait that she would find useful later in life; the legal, moralistic, ethical Code of Sentience had been drilled into her by Sark at such a tender age as to deter her from using her prematurely developed pisonic gifts, so, for all intents and purposes she appeared to be 'one of them'. Unfortunately that did not detract from the fact that she wasn't, yet all feelings towards the mater were firmly quashed with logic.
The Early Years: Qono'S (Dec 64 – Jan 71)
In late 2364 the Eshe family once more relocated and this time it was to the Imperial City on the home world of the notorious Klingons: Qono'S. Participating in a cultural exchange program Tanson headed up as a liaison officer between the exploratory arm of Starfleet and the Klingon exploration vessels, while Kerenza enjoyed a civil posting on a long term ecological study. While their parents were happy with their posting, the girls were not. At just eleven years old the twins had to adapt to a new culture, not to mention another language, and Qono'S was not as friendly as Federation Worlds. This would be the ultimate challenge for Dhanishta and her sister, to date at any rate.
Dhanishta coped well with learning the Klingon language, customs and traditions. However, putting theory into practice was another matter. Chandrakala on the other hand tended to jump in head first, being led all too often by her emotions and that of others due to the maturing of her empathic abilities. This did take the girls into dangerous territory and several fights; luckily nothing that couldn't be fixed with a trip to the infirmary, many in fact.
It became apparent to Dhanishta that to live with Klingons, one must become Klingon. While the Klingons emotional lust for conquest and blood did not sit well with Dhanishtas earlier teachings, their longstanding history, tradition and above all; honor, did. Putting to use the teachings of the Hakihr Way regurgitated by Sark; 'The mind controls the body; control the mind and the body will follow' along with her training in Ponn-Ifla and her understandings of Kareel-Ifla; Taroon-Ifla; Koon-ut-Kalifee and the Tal Shaya, Dhanishta soon found that she was adept at the Mok'Bara; K'ha Vor Tok and Ch'k pout.
By using her collective knowledge of Vulcan defensive styles and that of the self taught Klingon fighting styles, she merged the two and began to attend the local Bat'leth tournaments. Eventually, after a lot of persistence, she managed to take part in a match. That match was the turning point for her life upon Qono'S; one which she readily took her sister upon. After several successful Bat'leth tournaments Dhanishta became a focus (as well as a spectacle) for a group of Klingon youths. Among the mix were several that would become life long friends; K'vol from the House of Qas; Vor'Kall Son of Drex from the House of Vnarrh; Torlak Son of Mov'tah; So'han Son of Tannas from the House of Lar'at; Kinarra Daughter of Kuri from the House of Qel, M'Kota and Valkris Daughter's of Elas from the House of Noj. One in particular would later invite her and her sister to join their House, a great mark of respect and honor to an outsider.
2366 marked the year that Dhanishta became fully involved in Klingon customs and traditions. It also marked her Age of Ascension Ceremony and the year she underwent the Rite of MajQu in the caves of No'mat. What Dhanishta found most striking was just how similar Qono'S was to Vulcan. This unique opinion was not something Dhanishta could share openly with either species, but it was comforting for the young hybrid. The climates of both worlds were similar, yet what bore more similarities was the culture. Vulcan's stemmed from a violent history, worshiping many gods; Klingons had a similar volatile past. Where the two cultures differed was in the emotional aspect of that fact. Vulcans had turned to logic to advance beyond feudal wars, where as Klingons had celebrated that part of themselves. Both had martial arts stemming from those routs and while the Vulcan art of Ponn-Ifla focused primarily on self defense, the addition of the Tal Shaya made the form deadly.
Dhanishta's extremely controversial paper on the similarity of the two species, touching upon social behavior; culture; history; geology; traditions and xenobiology was the nail that sealed the coffin upon her fate of later becoming a Starfleet Officer.
In late 2366 Kinarra, a close friend of the Eshe twins, shamed her family by losing her Dak'tagh thus her honor, in a bar brawl to non other than the Head of House of her families Blood Enemy. Her father, Qel, was most displeased and shunned her. Having no place to go, for no other House would take her in, she begrudgingly accepted the offer of shelter from the Eshe twins and their parents. During the three months that followed the teenage trio plotted a way in which Kinarra could restore her honor, for she was the only child of Qel and thus the only heir to his House. The three plotted a 'Counting Coup', an old Terran tradition (Native American Indian to be exact) whereby one had to touch an enemy warrior with a hand or a coup stick and then run away unharmed. There was a risk of injury or death if the enemy were to respond with violence; however this act alone was not enough. For Kinarra to retrieve her honor she must also claim back what was taken from her. And in addition to that she also had to bring home something of great importance from her enemy to present to her father in order to be accepted back into his House. Dhanishta and Chandrakala pledged to aid Kinarra in her task and shortly after their success the three bonded through the R'uustai ceremony, adopting each other as sisters.
The Civil war of 68 barely touched the Eshe family, living in the Imperial City had its advantages, however its effects did have a large impact upon the girls. Kinarra, their sister by choice, was killed during the conflict and the Eshe twins entered into a Blood Oath with three others, M'Kota, So'han, and Valkris to avenge Kinarra's death.
It became apparent to Tanson and Kerenza that Qono'S was not a politically stable environment in which to raise a family. While the Civil War lasted roughly a year the destabilization of the Klingon government was apparent and Tanson began to contemplate leaving Qono'S and heading back to friendlier territory.
With the knowledge that her parents were planning to move to Earth, Dhanishta began to explore avenues of employment as she was rapidly approaching adulthood, she had been contemplating joining the Klingon Defense Force, however that was made moot by her parent's decision to take the twins with them to Earth. Dhanishta was eclectic by nature, using logic to define her existence and every situation therein. It was only logical then, to join Starfleet, just as it had been logical to immerse herself in the culture and traditions of Qono'S, Trill and Vulcan before. So in June of 2370 she entered and passed the Application to Starfleet 'Academy Competition' Exam and early 2371 the Eshe family relocated to Earth, before relations between the Federation and Klingon Empire really got ugly.
Tanson and Kerenza, to this day, still don't understand why, in late in 69, their daughters were invited to join the House of Qel. The twin's part in the assassination of Kinarra's killer was never divulged to anyone and neither has spoken of it since.
The Academy Years: (June 71 – June 75)
Sept 71 - June 72: First Year Cadet; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
Dhanishta excelled in the six weeks Preparatory Program and passed the Entrance Exam with flying colors, taking to the Academy like a fish to water. Throughout Dhanishtas life she had been classed as an outsider, even upon Trill she didn't quite fit in. While she bore no animosity towards any of the worlds she had lived upon, or the people therein, she wasn't quite prepared for Earths 'welcome all' attitude. Though once over the initial shock she found it to be quite liberating.
Having used logic to integrate herself into every culture she had been exposed to, she found it quite a challenge to immerse herself into the Academy culture, for it was extremely diverse. The structure kept her somewhat grounded, however she relished in the opportunity and freedom to explore these new cultures that had never before been available to her. While she would never describe her new found interests in an emotional context, such as love, she did become particularly enamored with Terran music, which had so much more potential than Klingon Opera. Her interest in the topic led her to take up music lessons, in which she became quite adept at playing the cello, drums, piano and guitar. She was a fast learner and soon became part of the Academy's orchestra performing for and representing the Academy in social functions throughout the following years. While her favored instrument was that of the cello, (her solo renditions were acclaimed by many from her audience to be 'haunting' and 'exhilarating') she also played for and later became the lead singer for her Class's band called 'The 'Verse', participating in the annual end-of-year 'Battle of the Bands', and subsequently winning the title two years in a row.
The Academy's extra curricular activities were in abundance and Dhanishta practically launched herself into as many as possible. She found several outlets for her athletic nature, joining a plethora of sports teams; long distance running, track, gymnastics and contemporary dance. Once more she found herself competing on behalf of the Academy in many prestigious contests of athletic and team abilities.
Through the bonds formed with various people from all sorts of diverse backgrounds, Dhanishta was taught the ways of Ti-Chi and Yoga by a close friend, finding the slow form of Ti-Chi to be complementary to her previous studies of Pon-Ifla and the Mok-Bara and the art of Yoga kept her body supple and toned; an excellent supplement to gymnastics.
Sept 72 - June 73: Second Year Cadet; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
Dhanishta was surprised to discover in her second year that her talents lent towards engineering rather than science as her father before her, yet the discovery did not faze her as she had no predestined ideals towards her future occupation within the Fleet. Leaving the details of her future career up to the hands of fate and the advice from her tutors she breezed through the following year with ease.
In addition to her extra curricular activities, Dhanishta also set up and taught Bat'leth classes, passing on her own knowledge to any that wished to learn and understand more about the Klingon culture. Training her pupils in her own unique form, a conglomeration of Klingon and Vulcan fighting and defensive styles, in hand to hand combat as well as weapon based combat, culminating in end-of-year matches, presentations and displays to the upper and lower Academy classes. Her initiative and effort was noticed and she was rewarded with the 'Outstanding Cadet' award at the end of her second academic year.
Sept 73 - June 74: Third Year Cadet; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
As Dhanishtas third year at the Academy began the Dominion War broke out. The Federation was shaken and the subsequent battles proved to be costly. Dhanishta had proved that she was a capable leader and was given the responsibility of 'Squadron Leader' for 15 new cadets, several of which were fast tracked out of the Academy and to the front lines, including Dhanishtas sister Chandrakala who was also in her third year. The situation turned grave late 73 when Deep Space 9 was captured by the combined forces of the Dominion and Cardassian fleet.
June 74 - Sept 74: Third Year Cadet, Field Training USS 'Wylie Coyote' (Excelsior/Constitution variant starship, medium cruiser)
Dhanishtas was likewise drafted to serve the War effort on the Vulcan Front for her 'field training'. She was assigned to the 5th Fleet serving on an un-named, un-registered bastardized Excelsior/Constitution Class medium cruiser. The Federation had lost many ships during the first year of conflict and with the high turnover of enemy ships had to compensate likewise by churning out as many space and war worthy ships as possible. The bastardized cruiser had Excelsior nacelles, a Constitution class secondary hull, Excelsior class primary hull, 10 type nine phaser banks, 2 photon launchers, reached a maximum speed of warp 9.75 and housed a total crew compliment of 290.
The bastardized ship was created to be nothing short of a war monster. She was hastily launched and flight tested and had endless problems. Serving on this ship was not only a test of how many times you could avoid death, (not only from the hand of the enemy but the ships unstable components) yet a test of the engineer's skills at how quickly they could solve the problems encountered during conflict as well as throughout general running.
During her first week of service Dhanishta was entered into the growing pool to name the ship, for it was believed that a ship with no name was most unfortunate. The 'Coyote' had already undergone several name changes prior to Dhanishtas service. The USS 'War Hog' was its first incarnation, the crew tenderly referring to themselves as 'the hogs of war'. This name was changed shortly after a rather devastating encounter with a fleet of Jem'Hadar war ships in which the 'War Hog' was vastly out gunned, its only saving grace being the Chief Engineers miracles efforts in sustaining high warp in order to get away as fast as possible, thus the 'War Hog' was renamed, the USS 'Road Runner'. Among its many incarnations and hastily renaming ceremonies, which proved to be a moral booster for those serving on her, the name 'Odd Ball' was entered into the growing list based on the addition of extra reverse thrusters (The idea being that they could get out of trouble quicker than they could get into it.) When Dhanishta came to serve on the ship it was yet again changing, with a new Captain and new strategies, the crew often found itself in more trouble than before making up crazy plans in order to devastate the enemy, thus the 'Wylie Coyote' was born.
Whilst Dhanishta was serving on the USS 'Wylie Coyote' the ship was ordered to withdraw from the Vulcan Front and reconvene with others from the 5th Fleet to join in 'Operation Return', the retake of Deep Space 9. The mission was a success and surprisingly against all the odds the 'Coyote' survived. This victory however was smothered in the amount of lives that had perished for this upper hand against the Dominion. Dhanishtas performance was documented as exemplarily by the Chief Engineer and his recommendations for a commendation was placed in her file.
Sept 74 - June 75: Forth Year Cadet; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
The experience of serving on the 'Coyote' broadened Dhanishtas mind as well as her skills. She had a knack for keeping the 'Coyote' floating, understood the dynamics of merging components from two ships together to create a new type of Starship. Upon her return to the academy Dhanishta requested that she spend time at the Utopia Planita Ship Yards to study the creation and development of Starship Design as a personal project. Her request was accepted and with her first hand knowledge of 'bastardized ships in action' she contributed a great deal to the design of future ships similar to the 'Coyote'.
Graduating in 75, Dhanishta would remember her Academy years with fondness, reserved for silent reflection only, as she was still at this time a carbon copy of an emotionless Vulcan.
Post Graduation, Service Record: (June 75 – Date)
June 75 – Sept 75: Ensign, Engineering officer, Starfleet Engineering San Francisco Earth
In September of 75, just months after taking her first posting at Starfleet Engineering on Earth, the young Ensign along with the rest of Earths civilian and enlisted personal had a rather rude awakening when the Dominion War breached their boarders and the Breen attacked Starfleet Command in San Francisco. Dhanishta was stationed at the headquarters at this time and was lucky enough to escape with minimal injuries; however this was her first taste of personal loss. The few close friends Dhanishta had at that time, along with her family, know who perished that day: although they don't know the whole truth. This truth along with the loss of someone who played an important part in Dhanishtas life, and future, was something that she could not under any circumstances divulge to anyone. This applied a heavy weight upon Dhanishta, one that she has had trouble carrying since.
October 75: Ensign, Engineering officer, USS Geronimo Ninth Fleet, under command of General Martok: Supreme Commander of the Ninth Fleet
After such a devastating blow the Federation mounted a counter strike. Dhanishta, along with several other green Ensigns were sent out as a relief force to the Ninth Fleet and distributed among the ships therein. However, Dhanishtas first posting as a junior engineer on a starship, the USS Geronimo, was short lived. The Akira Class heavy cruiser was destroyed in action in the Chin'toka system. Luckily for Dhanishta and the others that escaped: the Dominion spared their lives. Extremely demoralized, the remaining crew of the Geronimo and several other ships were rescued and returned to Federation space.
Dhanishta was offered counseling at this time to help her cope with the trauma, however she refused. Dhanishta was far from traumatized. The events she had witnessed and undergone made her more determined to see the Dominion obliterated. More so than that, Dhanishta wished to be in a position of influence. Following the events at the Chin'toka system Dhanishta applied to the academy to undertake extensive courses in Engineering and Command. While her primary skills lay in engineering she had undertaken many leadership roles at the academy and shown ability to lead under pressure as well as think on her feet and take an active interest in the safety of the Federation. Her late application for the extended courses was accepted.
December 75 - June76: Extended course in Engineering; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
Dhanishta caught up quickly and found her previous experiences advantageous. As the War came to an end the Federation and its allies breathed a sigh of relief, however it was far from over as now the damage assessments were collated and rebuilding began.
June 76 – Sept 76: Ensign, Engineering Officer, Utopia Planita Ship Yards
Rather than take a 'summer break' Dhanishta continued to serve between her extended courses. Rebuilding had begun but was far from over. During the War many new technologies had been discovered and many defensive ideas were in testing. The aftermath of war was quite exhilarating for Dhanishta, while resources were low, projects were plentiful.
Sept 76 - June 77: Extended course in Command; Starfleet Academy, San Francisco; Earth
Dhanishta found the Command courses to be enlightening; in hind sight she would have preferred to have taken them prior to serving during hostilities, however with these new qualifications under her belt she felt more confident. No longer an inexperienced junior officer, but an officer with ambition: she took her new skills into her next posting with enthusiasm.
Oct 77 – Dec 79, Ensign; System Laboratories Specialist SCE - Starfleet Engineering, San Francisco: Earth
In October of 77 upon completing her extra courses at the Academy Dhanishta was posted full time at Starfleet Engineering in San Francisco, Earth. There she was assigned to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers for a time. While assigned to the SCE Dhanishta initially worked in the Terran system laboratories, studying, analyzing and reverse engineering the various pieces of technology that were brought back by the crews of SCE ships or other starships.
Jan 79 – March 80, Ensign; Theoretical Propulsion and Design Specialist SCE - Starfleet Engineering, San Francisco: Earth
In January of 79 she transferred to join the SCE personnel who worked with the theoretical propulsion and design teams, integrating the new technology the SCE had examined into the next generation of starships. With the Dominion War firmly behind her and her duties manageable, Dhanishta took up her personal pursuits that had been cast aside during the War and the subsequent years spent focusing on her career. In February 2380 Dhanishta had the chance to participate in the annual Starfleet Bat'leth Tournament upon Starbase Ten; it was an honor to compete in this tournament as it boasted the finest athletes. Only the best made it through and Dhanishta had her heart set on winning the trophy. The challengers were indeed difficult, but once again Dhanishtas training and upbringing paid off; she made it through to the Winners Circle. With only one challenger, Mr. Ethan Suder, standing between her and victory Dhanishta fought hard. This was more than a test of skill and physical ability. To Dhani this tournament was about honor and glory.
By rights she won the tournament and defeated Suder, although this victory was because Suder let himself become distracted by a face in the crowd. Eliminating him was easy: due to this Dhanishta called for a rematch, unsatisfied with her easy victory, for it was not honorable. However during the rematch it was Dhanishtas turn to become distracted. Her twin sister Chandrakala was arriving on the cargo vessel Trawglugo, she had also planned to participate in the competition but the Trawglugo had been delayed due to technical difficulties and was now on a collision course with the Starbase. Dhanishta had been alerted to their predicament via her telepathic link with her twin, and forfeited the tournament to save her sister.
Sensor scans indicated that propulsion systems were off line due to massive system wide failures, fires were sweeping through the ship and the personal were in danger. Upon arriving at the docking port Dhanishta began transporting the personnel off the ship and directly to sick bay. The team on the station tried to tractor the ship in yet it was traveling too fast. By increasing power to the stations structural integrity grid Dhanishta managed to decrease the damage to the station as the out-of-control freighter collided into the docking port. Suder had followed Dhani to the docking bay and subsequently was caught in the rising turmoil. As the ship breached the hull Suder was in danger of being sucked out. Luckily for him, Dhanishta managed to raise the forcefields and re-pressurize the deck in time to prevent his untimely demise. Thankfully there were no causalities, Dhanishtas quick actions had saved the crew and the damage to the station was repairable.
With the crisis taking priority Dhanishta ended up leaving empty handed, or so she thought. Unbeknown to Dhanishta and Ethan, the two had unwittingly made a telepathic connection during a brief exchange several days after the Tournament. Neither one aware of this subliminal link, both returned to their respective homes and continued in their service.
While Dhanishta thoroughly enjoyed working along side the SCE something within her began to pine for a different location. Despite her previous disastrous postings on Starships during the War, having lived planet side all her life she had always looked to the stars, for that is where she longed to be. She applied for a transfer to the USS Galaxy, not quite sure why, but feeling that that was where she was supposed to be. When her transfer was excepted Dhanishta was surprised to be elated with the news, and for the first time in her life that she could remember, she cried.
The Galaxy Years: (April 80 – Date)
(Updates coming soon)
|
||
Dhanishta is tall, slender and well toned. (Additional note: Since her nine month coma, Oct 81 to July 82, Dhanishta has lost a lot of muscle tissue. She is extremely thin and underweight. She is on an extended course of treatment to rectify this.) She has long dark hair which is usually left loose out of hours, on duty it is held back or up with clips, bands and the like, however she has never, and will never, sport the typical bun style favored by most Starfleet women. She has pale skin, and prefers to keep it that way; shying out of direct sunlight, this makes her Trill spots look more pronounced, which typically descend her body from her forehead, down her flanks to the heals of her feet. Her eyes are dark green, almost verging on black and they have been known to noticeably shift between the two shades. She has a Klingon symbol branded into her right shoulder; this symbol incorporates the emblem of the House of Qel of which she is considered a Daughter of. She has no other identifying marks of choice on her body. Dhanishta holds emotional control in high regard and dose not openly display emotion or affection towards anyone accept her sister, Chandrakala, even her parents are kept at arms length. She has had one serious relationship prior to joining the USS Galaxy, within that relationship she allowed herself to display limited emotion, however she would only display such qualities during intimate moments and this ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ act was eventually the downfall of the relationship. At the time, this revelation from the man she believed she loved, the one whom she promised to marry, was not something she contemplated. The hurt and pain was stored away and not dealt with as it was emotional and Dhanishta was emotionless. Dhanishta’s concept of Vulcan Logic, while stemmed from Vulcans is not as literal as one might first think. Dhanishta used the principles of logic to combat the situations she faced. For example: upon Qono’S, if her honor was challenged, she must fight, for that was the honorable thing to do and Klingons were honorable first and foremost – there for it was only logical to do as Klingons did, for that was the order of things. This concept was challenged somewhat when she Joined the Academy as there were no hard and fast rules regarding culture, as Starfleet contained students from a plethora of backgrounds. The system compensated for that lack of cultural background which Dhanishta usually immersed herself in, and this allowed her to explore cultures without necessarily adopting them as her own. This form of logical thinking has allowed Dhani to transition seamlessly through many different environments and situations. Dhanishtas telepathic abilities developed prior to puberty, which is why she was taught by Master Sark to control them and also to give her moral and ethical grounding as her mother was unable to tutor her children in the ways of Betazoids for she was a mute. Dhanishta is, unusually, fully telepathic and also telekinetic. She has not advanced her abilities, nor does she use them. Her telepathic lobe is larger than that of a standard Betazoid, whether this is due to the fact she is a hybrid has never been investigated as she has never openly used her pisonic abilities during her time at the Academy nor during her earlier postings. Dhanishtas bond with her twin, Chandrakala, is extremely strong. Both have been known to sense and even experience the others feelings, especially when one of them is in physical danger or has been injured. These occurrences have been known to take place in dreams or even whilst awake, as visions or just physical sensations and have occasionally manifested symptoms in the other. The pair have their own language, developed whilst they were children and occasionally when they are together this childhood-twin-language has been known to resurface, extremely confusing for anyone listening. Whilst together most of their communicating is done telepathically, or a strange combination of telepathy and verbal communication including phrases, or whole passages, in Vulcan, Trill and/or Klingon. Dhanishta’s personality has changed dramatically since joining the USS Galaxy. With the development of the telepathic link with Ethan Suder, Dhanishta began to experience a range of emotions that she was just not prepared for. This sent her world spiraling out of control, one that she has not been able to reclaim since. She began to use her pisonic gifts; the ones that she had let lie dormant within her for fear of reprisals. Sark had drilled into her the ‘Code of Sentience’ at such a young age, as if to deter her from ever using them. And it had worked; she had never really stretched her mind. She heard surface thoughts; she ‘heard’ feelings, understood them to a degree and compensated for them when dealing with others. Yet as the bond with Suder cemented she found herself drawn to using them. Little things at first; floating objects and such, and then onto larger things; using telekinetics in battle to inflict damage to her opponent/enemies. After suffering insomnia for over a year, unknowingly telepathically boded to Suder, caught in a temporal paradox that generated a split personality, fighting Ethan Suder to the death – culminating with her in a nine month coma, dying countless times and being revived, much to her chagrin, enduring night terrors – which Dhani believes to be repressed memories of her past; Dhanishta has found it more and more difficult to integrate herself with those around her. Her personally now is somewhat jumbled. Unable to repress emotion as she once had, she now feels them to their extremities. For one so used to being in control as Dhanishta always was, every day has become a battle of will to try and combat the next wave of emotion, a torment that is slowly tearing her apart. Often appearing brusque, rude, arrogant and on occasion totally bipolar. Those close to her are continuously worried about her mental state. Yet Dhanishta feels that she can not go to any of them for help, for she is concealing a secret past that she believes they will condemn her for if they ever find out. Dhanishta finds it difficult to talk to counselors, not just because she feels she has something to hide now, but also because she is still unsure how to express herself, still unsure how to handle emotions. She finds it extremely frustrating and this in turn sparks off anger and resentment within her which bubbles over and causes her to lash out at all the wrong people. She has come to resent Doctors even more than counselors, most likely because they revived her the first time she died, an experience she recalls completely and reveres to this day. She strongly believes that she was not supposed to survive and that if she had died she would have escaped the enormity of everything that happened since; she would have been spared the pain and torment and the sheer suffering that ‘feeling’ has put her though. However there is a much deeper reason to her dislike and fear of Doctors, one that she is still unaware of its origins, yet is beginning to remember in small cat-food-sized meaty chunks. Dhanishta is struggling, slowly drowning within herself. She is fiercely stubborn and becoming more and more terrified of herself as her recollection of how to use her pisonic abilities resurfaces. Since her emotions have surfaced Dhanishta has come to realize, slowly, just how out of place she really is. Having no fixed abode and no definite structure to her upbringing (for she believes that she was raised predominately by Vulcans rather than her parents) she feels that she has no place to call ‘home’. She has adopted many traditions from both Vulcan and Qono’S – for these are the societies that she lived in the longest. She has never been to Betazed, and she has resentments towards the species, even though she is half Betazoid, she feels uneasy around them, fearing that they are always trying to read her mind and catch her out. Dhanishtas relationship with her parents is strained at best. She gets along with her father, Tanson, much better than she does her mother, Kerenza. It is safe to say that there is no love loss between them. However this is far from the truth. The rejection from her mother has affected Dhanishta much more than she realizes. During her nine month coma, Dhanishta was aware of certain things that transpired around her. When her mother ordered the doctors to switch off the ventilators that kept Dhanishta alive she recalls clearly her mother talking to her, apologizing for all her mistakes and claiming how proud of Dhanishta she was, along with how much she really did love her. This revelation was a shock to Dhanishta and it was this that made her strive for one last breath, strive for the opportunity to at least try to make things right with her mother, to tell her mother that she did in fact love her too. However when Dhanishta came to, several hours later, Kerenza collapsed with shock and Dhanishta has never found the right moment to tell her mother how she really feels. |

Dhanishta has a fondness for coffee; Raktajino, cappuccino, latté and good old regular - milk double sweet. She is particular to Klingon Blood Wine, Icoberry juice cocktail, the infamous Black Hole and Takarian Mead. Her favorite food is freshly made (not replicated, which is why she so seldom has it these days) Terran Chinese Chicken Chow Mein, Szechuan Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce and chips, served with Green Tea. She enjoys fresh Azna, again another dish that is much better fresh than replicated, however she has managed to program her own version of this dish, which she calls Annanza, into the replicator with much success. She plays the cello – which is named Chang, after the man who gave it to her – when she plays the cello she would let her walls down, this was never originally by choice, yet by doing so she was able to feel the emotions of the audience. She would use those feelings within her performance; let their emotions guide the rhythm, tempo and the melodies of her fingertips. Her renditions and improvisations were acclaimed to be haunting by many. And this was the only time that Dhanishta would willingly allow herself to feel others in such a personal way, once she stopped playing the gates were closed – it was almost automatic. The first time it happened she was violently sick. Yet with persistence she managed to control that reaction somewhat and just play their emotions. Since joining the Galaxy however she has not played for anyone but herself, and is quite often sick afterwards. Dhanishta also creates holo-programs; this is another hobby that has laid dormant for some time of late. Her programs ranged from recreational, which she made primarily for her sister, to training which she uses herself habitually. Dhanishta is well trained in martial arts from Vulcan, Klingon and Terran. She is adept at using hand weapons and blades. She is proficient with a phaser yet has never explored the use of energy weapons, or her skills with them, to any great lengths. Dhanishta is referred to by those that know her on a personal/friend, level as Dhani. For those that know her intimately, family and partners only, she permits to call her Nishta. Nishta is the abbreviation that her sister, Kala, has used since childhood and under no circumstances will she permit anyone but those extremely close to use that abbreviation. Dhanishta can be pronounced two ways; Dan-nee-sh-ta or Duh-han-nee-sh-ta, only her mother, when partially vexed or being pompous uses the latter pronunciation. Dhani – is pronounced like the Terran name Danny, or female form Dannie. Eshe is pronounced Eh-she. Dhanishta has a black cat named Salem-Sebastian, a spider called Jii (named after Ahdjiia D'Tinya-Bolivar who was killed on an away mission in 2381) and a dog called Peckerwood – who was originally owned by Lt. Com Brianna O’Shea, yet was abandoned when the woman was revealed to be a Hydran clone. Dhanishta was never able to reunite the pet with its former owner as O’Shea was too traumatized when Baile rescued her from a Hydran prison planet. Out of duty and loyalty to her former CO Dhanishta has taken care of the mutt ever since, hoping that one day she will be able to reunite Pecker with Anna herself. Brief on the Eshe family: Tanson Eshe was born on Trillius Prime 10th Oct 2311 to Hari and Adira Eshe. He was the second born to this couple, his sister, Zeleika, is three years older than him. From Hari's previous marriage to Urania he had two children; Lazio (2307) and Sorcha (2309). It is clear from the birth date of Zeleika and Sorcha that the marriages 'overlapped' some. Hari and Adira had thirteen wonderful years together before she died in a transport accident in 2321. Several years later when his children were grown up themselves Hari remarried to a much younger woman named Meera and had a further two children, Daiziel in 2332 and Radha in 2334. Tanson Eshe joined Starfleet after graduating the Trill Science Institute. His career blossomed due to his intellect and the scientific advancements he contributed towards his chosen field. He had been privy to serve on several Federation Science vessels within the fleet and took up teaching later in his career. Brief on the Dass family: How they met: |
