Paulo had a normal childhood. He was the first in his family to leave and join Starfleet. As you could guess his parents where not really happy when he told them he was joining Starfleet.

As a young child he was always interested in learning new things, and that is part of the reason he went into Intelligence. He also liked to help people, and that was another reason that he decided to join Intelligence as he could do both at the same time, even if no one knew about it.

While growing up he had a younger sister that was two years younger, and a younger brother who was his little sister's twin. While his little sister's (Imari) and brother's (Chris) 3rd birthdays Imari was kidnapped. To this date no one knows where she is. Chris fell into deep depression, and died less then 6 months later, as his body and mind gave up trying to live without his twin. This event was very hard on Paulo, as he not only lost his only sister, but he also list his only brother, and both his parents went into self isolation, shutting out the world around them.

When he finally joined Starfleet as an Intelligence major, he used the loss of his younger brother and sister as strength to get through the academy and graduate within the top 10% of his class. He made very few friends while at the Academy, working on his studies most of the time, and not wanting to forget for one second of the loss of his family. The few friends that he did make learned not to ask to much about his past, but instead to wait till he opened up and told them himself. he still holds a strong friendship with a couple of his friends from the Academy, and they get together whenever they can.

During his time at Starfleet Intelligence he made many outstanding discoveries, the biggest being shortly after the terrorists attack on Starbase One, and many other planets around the Federation. He found a valid connection as to whom did it, which is still being investigated today. He got very little field duty while working at Starfleet Intelligence, which is one of the reasons he requested a transfer.

In 2380 Paulo was transferred back to Starfleet Intelligence and quickly promoted to Lt. Jg. He worked well, getting through his work quickly. A few months into it, after getting a letter, Paulo went AWOL. Here is his log that he made while at the Penal Colony:

<--LOG-->

***6 Months Ago***
It had been a few months ago when this downward track had started. He had been pulled back to Starfleet Intelligence after being on the Galaxy for only a few months. There he worked well, he even got promoted to Lt. J.G. and had a small staff that worked under him. All he could remember was getting a letter from an anonymous source telling where his little sister was. He used his own sources, and even some Starfleet sources to dig around to see if this letter was true or not. Everything he got back was positive. His approached his head and asked for a ship and a few men to go investigate to see if his sister was there. It was denied as it was listed a low priority by Starfleet Command. That is what started it.

That evening, after going back to his apartment, he packed up a few things, a phaser with some power cells, a tricorder, a micro communicator that later got surgically implanted just under his ear, under the skin. He took some field rations and headed back to Starfleet Intelligence. From there he beamed up to Starbase One, and he headed for the hanger deck. He bypassed some security measures and beamed aboard a runabout and stole it right under Starbase One's eyes. He made off like a rocket it. He had a starship after him, the USS Stronghold, but Paulo was able to lose them in the asteroid belt. From there he set course for his destination deep within Romulan Space.

Paulo was at warp for over a month before he got to his destination. He had to avoid many Starfleet and Romulan patrols. The Romulans had apparently been warned that Paulo may head into their space as he had to evade a Warbird more then once.

He arrived at a backwater world. A class-L planet. He could breath in it, but it had nothing in a way of food that he could eat. He landed on the far outskirts of a small settlement and trekked his way in. Here he found Romulans, and many other species (some he had never seen or heard about). It wasn't hard to find the contact that had sent him the note, and the contact had led him to a small building north of town. Here Paulo was told to wait. He took out his phaser and tricorder and started to scan. When he found everything safe he sat down to take a bite to eat, then everything went black. The next thing he knew he was in this cellar.

Over the past months he had been tortured, beaten, and even drugged for information. He hadn't given anything away due to his training, but each time it got worse. The beatings and the drugs. He now sat there. He had lost over 50lbs, and he was very very weak. Then he was saved. A Romulan security team had rescued him from that hell whole. He was brought back to health by a Romulan doctor and then sent back to the Federation for trial. He of course was found guiltily on all charges and was sent to the New Zealand Penal Colony.

Paulo was then visited by an Admiral who gave him a second chance. He was sent back to the Galaxy as a low ranking Intelligence Officer. He would have to check in with security every month so they could evaluate his work over the past month. He would also have to see a Counselor for 6 or more months, and he would have to have daily meetings with Lt. Jg.

In December 2382, Paulo was re-assigned to the Vanguard Starfighter unit on board the USS Galaxy as its Intelligence Liaison.

Paulo is a very closed off person, not letting to many people get close to him. He seems to always be working, even when he is off duty, as he has a PADD in his hand. He doesn't make friends to easily, but he does seem to be able to make contacts very easily, as he has a growing information network that helps him gather the information he needs.

He is very confident in himself and his duties. His life is driven by his missing sister and his dead brother. He will go to almost any means to get any information he needs on a subject, which has almost gotten him in trouble.

Paulo is a different man then what he used to be. He his now very rigid and argumentative with people around him. He doesn't get along with anyone, and has trouble trusting anyone anymore. This dramatic change accrued as he was taken prisoner for a few months and tortured every day. He learned to have his mind leave his body, so to say, so that he would not feel the pain. While his life is still driven to finding his missing sister, he doesn't let anyone in on it. Though he does have flashbacks to his time of capture, it doesn't seem to affect him. This could be that he has come to terms with it or that he has gotten good at hiding it.

When people see Paulo working while off duty, he isn't working on his normal duties. He is instead working on following a path to his missing sister, still feeling that he needs to find her. He doesn't know is she will remember him, or how she looks, but as time goes on he feels he is getting close to her, and close to the person who took her from him, his brother and his parents. He will completely forget about his duty and oath to get her back.
