Rebecca von Ernst was the only child of John and Holli von Ernst, born 2354 in Buffalo, New York on Earth. When Rebecca was about 6 her family bought a small farm in Minnesota, and made the move to the country just outside of Minneapolis. Rebecca's father John, died barely four years later in a tragic illness, leaving the 8 year old girl and her mother to care for the struggling farm themselves. Much of her early childhood revolved around daily chores and making dinner for her mother who worked several jobs to make ends meet.

Due to her work demands, Rebecca was tutored at home, and rarely came into contact with other children except for frightening trips into Minneapolis to shop for supplies.

It was during these computer-moderated tutoring sessions that young Rebecca's exceptional Mathematics skills and Memory were brought to the attention of Starfleet Academy. Rebecca possessed an incredible head for numbers and visualizing complex Mathematical models, while also having a near photographic memory. She devoured the formulas and theories of the Federations top scientists at an early age.

To her total surprise she began to be flooded with scholarship offers from Universities across the Federation to study in their Mathematics Departments.

The deciding factor however was when on her 17th Birthday, a slim Well-groomed Starfleet Officer descended upon the von Ernst farm and offered the girl an appointment to the Academy. At first the idea terrified Rebecca, but the substantial spending stipend offered, would go a long way towards supporting her mother.

At the Academy Rebecca was quickly dubbed an outcast due to her terrible social skills and fears. Her shyness won her the name "Cadet Cloaking Device" and she never kept the same roommate long. She often huddled alone in the locker room wrapped in a towel, waiting until all the other cadets had finished dressing before taking her own shower.

The chime at her dorm door was always for her far prettier and more popular roommates, and Rebecca spent most liberty weekends in her Room alone studying or Cross-stitching.

She had the unusual distinction of placing near the top of her class scholastically, and yet near the bottom in actual physical drill. An unusual combination that frustrated her instructors to no end. Strangely her superior head for vectors and 3-dimensional spatial relations made her a whiz at starship combat simulations..... unfortunately her fragile psyche could not bear up the strain of command.

In her Final Simulation before Graduation....The infamous Kobayashi Maru Scenario, Rebecca joined the small ranks of the 1% of cadets who chose NOT to cross the Neutral Zone to rescue the freighter. She survived the Scenario, but the lack of courage was viewed as a failure by her peers.

Following Graduation, Rebecca undertook a standard training tour at Starbase 108, with rather lackluster results. Her shy nature and timidity tended to ostracize her from the crew as a whole, and she essentially faded into the background.

In 2375, Starfleet Tactical headed by Admiral Jurgen Hoth was hopeful Rebecca's talents would take her to a new elite Command school. Unfortunately for Hoth, he was faced with the daunting task of overcoming Rebecca's innate skittishness. She was transferred to the front lines of Battle aboard the Defiant Class USS Victory as Tactical Officer. The idea was to thrust her out into the line of fire and hope her natural talents took over; It was a disaster. Rebecca froze and burst into tears at the Battle of Nar Hallas, nearly costing the ship. 15,000 Colonists and two Starships were lost in the battle.

At her official reprimand, the nervous Ensign became so upset, she vomited her breakfast all over the Review Panel's table. It was only through Admiral Hoth's influence she was able to escape court martial. Needless to say, despite her skills in Simulation, Hoth was forced to adopt a slower approach for actual combat, and thus she was transferred to the Research oriented USS Galaxy.

It was aboard the Galaxy that her career literally began to take off. In one bizarre twist of fate after another, (and a healthy push from Starfleet Command's Admiral Hoth), the timid young girl from Minnesota was inexorably thrust into the limelight in promotion after promotion going from Ensign to Lieutenant to Lt. Commander to Commander in mere months. From a mere junior member of the Tactical Department she rose to run the whole Department to eventually becoming the XO over the entire ship.

Unfortunately somewhere along the way something of Rebecca's soul was lost, and during one very emotionally trying away mission to the site of a bloody massacre aboard the K-4 Space Station, she 'snapped'. The Rebecca that beamed back aboard was one of an ice-cold demeanor devoid of any emotion or mercy. With a calm cool approach she applied herself tirelessly to the utter destruction of the Galaxy's foes with Mathematical precision.

This was the spark that Hoth was looking for. Immediately removing her from the Research-oriented USS Galaxy he transferred her to the USS Prospero under the infamous Captain John Q. Brhode. Here as XO over the improved Excelsior class vessel, Rebecca spent a year gaining a reputation as a cold-hearted tactician in engagement after bloody engagement. Whispers began to be spread throughout the fleet of the Ice-Hearted Witch that was Brhode's right hand. Nobody seemed to recall who Cadet Cloaking Device Was.

In 2379 with the launching of the newly redesigned USS Galaxy, Rebecca has returned to her old ship again at the side of Blood 'n Guts Brhode. Many of her old associates wonder whatever happened to the timid little girl they knew and loved, and who this cold hearted killer who replaced her is.

Her isolation from others during her youth, and innate timidity about her own looks has caused Rebecca to develop into an incredibly introverted and skittish personality. Very, very shy and insecure. Soft whispery voice, Rarely looks a person in the eyes preferring to stare at some spot on the floor. Easily startled, easily embarrassed. Easily provoked to tears. Nervous around groups, especially the opposite sex. Very modest and self-conscience of her body. Emotionally fragile, she has been known to break into tears at the drop of a hat, and toss her cookies if pressed too far.

Rebecca is extremely modest and self conscious about her thin rather undeveloped body. She has never dated nor even been asked. Her hazing at the Academy left her even weaker for the experience. However, one bright point is that at times, when on the subject of Mathematics or Physics Rebecca will tend to get so excited that she may inadvertently blurt out a totally brilliant statement before she realizes it and withdraws.

In the last year however this has changed as Rebecca has adopted an icy, merciless demeanor for dealing with others. On the inside she is still frightened, but perhaps even she does not realize this consciously.

Barely five feet in height and tipping the scales at a mere 95 pounds, it is obvious Rebecca has a very frail build, and is Thin boned and fragile. Slight figure. Pale skin dotted with freckles. Auburn hair with watery brown eyes.

In 2378 She was proposed to by her long time associate Commander Lysander Van der Puls Hawksley. Unfortunately for Hawksley Rebecca had already adopted her Icy Persona and coldly rejected him on the grounds that "He didn't know what he was talking about"

Unbeknownst to either of them, her mother, Holli still has the ring in safekeeping back in Minnesota.
