The man that would be known as Dr. Jebediah Quick was born on lazy summer day in 2340 to a rather unusual young lady by the name of Sunshine Quick. Sunshine could only be described as a Neo-Flower Child influenced by he resurgence of the modern Hippie movement of the late 2330's, A movement that also, amazingly enough, included Zephram Cochrane for a while. Free thinkers and loose spirits all, the Neo-Hippies were born of during the Great Diaspora of the 22nd century, leaving Earth in ill-conceived and prepared transports to 'Find Utopia and like, get the Groove on, Man" Those that remained continued to live in loose, roving 'tribes' on the fringes of society, shunning the Urban metropolises. Jebediah's father, presumably a similarly minded radical, remains to this day a mere blurry memory of Sunshine's trip to the Woodstock LXXXVIII during the Fall of '39. He is always described as being 'like totally wicked smart, but not in the corporate socio-industrial wheeze way, you know? Like totally righteous.' Jebediah therefore, was raised solely by his mother in a rustic trailer park outside Tucson Arizona. Life was simple or the flower child and her son, but at least modern technology spared them any real hardships. Growing up on the fringe of society as it were, young Jebediah had occasion to be exposed to a variety of 'alternative' philosophies on the nature of life and the universe, and indeed these experiences would contribute greatly to his later unconventional scientific theorems and attitudes. Exceptionally bright and inquisitive, Jebediah had little difficulty obtaining an invitation to attend some of Earth's finest Universities, but by the same toke, his casual unhurried mannerisms led to his skipping a great deal many of those classes. The fact was he was intelligent when he applied himself, but he was just as interested in making pictures in passing clouds, as he was in particle physics. To him they were one and the same. Jebediah Quick drifted for much of his 20's, attending university after university all over the globe. He became quite a jack-of-all-trades as his majors changed quite often as his interests varied. Finally, earning a degree, and then Doctorate in Theoretical Physics, Philosophy, and Alternative Medicine the still young Dr. Quick settled down to explore the universe in an endless search to wed his more radical `flower-child' philosophies with the latest in Federation Technologies. He continued to accumulate knowledge in the most obscure, and usually useless fields of study, and can claim abilities in everything from field stripping a Warp core, to performing a Bajoran Marriage Ritual. . . . . neither of which however with much skill or relation to how others have done it before. Over the past 10 years, this 'all things are possible' attitude has scored Dr. Quick both some amazingly successful discoveries, as well as some gross blundering failures. More peculiar he seems to react equally no matter the final results. A great advance in high-energy Maser technology will be quickly forgotten in his latest attempt to record the dream-state of oak trees. He continues to be influenced by his Mother's Flower-Child Mentality, and refuses to adhere to any established scientific dogma. In recent years, Dr. Quick has found intermittent service with the community of Starfleet's Science Council, and Theoretical Weapons Division. As can be expected, the usual regimented nature of Starfleet clashes quite often with Quick's more Laze Faire attitudes, and more often than not his more harebrained schemes tend to frustrate the military to no end. Admiral Jurgen Hoth, in particular loathes the mere mention of the Good Doctor. However it is for his rare bursts of pure genius that keeps Quick on the 'payroll', and indeed most recently he has made several notable contributions to the new 'Project Archangel' sponsored Galaxy-X project at Utopia Planetia. |

Beyond his rather quirky
scientific abilities, and rather debatable philosophical views, Dr. Quick
also seems to posess a rather unusual trait in that he seems to KNOW, and
be KNOWN by almost EVERYBODY.
Long time colleges will attest to the fact that even on the most remote edge of the galaxy research missions, the good Doctor will always seem to stumble across an old college buddy, or perhaps ex-business partner, or jilted lover.On the last note, many have taken note of the fact that Dr. Quick seems to have an inexhaustible list of ex-girlfriends on almost every known world in the Alpha Quadrant, although no one seems to have every actually known Quick when he is currently dating someone. (i.e. everyone is an 'ex' never 'present' girlfriend.) From a lonely Technician on a relay station in Breen Orbit, to Dr. Leah Brahms, the Doc can usually blush and stammer out an explanation, accompanying a usually awkward social moment. While this seeming complicated web of social interactions sometimes seems to be an advantage, more often than not these 'old friends' have less than fond memories of Quick, a trait shared by some current confidantes. |
||
Dr. Quick can usually be
described as a rather lanky human of above average height. However this
advantage in stature is usually negated by the fact that he has a rather
bad habit of slouching and/or stooping that tends to diminish his size.
His skin is quite pale and it is rather obvious that the good Doctor does not get a lot of sun. His hair by contrast is a luxurious black, that (unfortunately in the time honored tradition of every eccentric scientist since Einstein), is usually worn in a wild stringy mop. The actual length of hair varies depending on how often he remembers to get it cut, but except on very rare occasions it will be messy in appearance. The Doctor's clothes by contrast are usually of above average quality and tailoring, although they do tend to be a bit behind the times in terms of style. They usually are, in the opinion of most photosensitive species, clashing in terms of color coordination. Jebediah's Mannerism range in all spectrums from polite refinement, to crazed maniacal ravings, to quiet contemplation on the nature of infinity. It is in fact this diverse nature that is the very root of Quick's genius, and why he tends to integrate himself easily (albeit oddly) into most any social situation. |
