The child of two ex-Neo-Hippies, Indigo Renkert had always been a free spirit, doing whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. Therefore, it wasn't too much of a surprise when she suddenly decided one day that she wanted to join Starfleet. Apparently, the Academy had been recruiting near the deli by her art school and, having disagreed with her teacher that day about paper clips being a proper medium, she decided to enlist.

Indigo Renkert was killed in the line of duty in July 2382 by Brian Elessidil, who had been under the influence of the Dithparu at the time, and not responsible for his actions.

Many of the things Indigo does are on a whim, like joining Starfleet. She is impulsive, quirky, and talkative. Indy tries to be expressive in everything she does, which she tries to reflect in her appearence, often wearing strange clothing, jewelery, and multicolored hair. She has so far managed to get away with this in her department because she is a good researcher for the various science projects onboard Galaxy. Indy is friendly, animated, and believes that some rules are made to be bent, some rules are just crap.

Her natural hair color is a dirty blond although she hasn't been seen with that color since she was fourteen.

Her best friend, and roommate, is Ella Grey. Another close friend is 8-ball Hunter. She is terrified of Ella's love interest, Victor Krieghoff, but tries not to run screaming from the room for her sake.

The first man she ever loved, Bill, died when the Galaxy was attacked.
