Born to Gwenn and Bobby Reynolds on Earth, San Francisco. She had a normal childhood. Her parents both taught at the academy. Her father taught Astrophysics. Her mom taught self-defense, karate and other various martial arts. They both just retired at 55 and 60 years old. She also had a twin sister. She was a Lieutenant on the USS Berkley. While on an away mission, her sister Gisselle was killed when her shuttle went out of control. It exploded on impact, killing her and seven others. Her parents and Janelle went through counseling to come to grips with her death. Janelle found it a little more difficult.

She was always interested in medicine since she was a little girl. She go to the Academy with her Aunt, a nurse, to see her parents and was always found in the medical labs. She grew to love anything that had to do with medicine. When she turned 18, she entered Starfleet Medical and graduated. She was assigned to the USS Yorktown where she served her residency as a Medical Doctor. In 2378, her sister died and she took a few months off to come to grips with it. She avoided shuttles too which kept her from away teams but she eventually got over it. She continued working there, being promoted several more times in rank. By 2379, she was promoted to ACMO. She enjoyed the USS Yorktown but she was finding herself in a rut so when she was offered CMO in 2380 on the USS Galaxy, she took the assignment.

Having a twin die is like having a part of you die. Her family being in Starfleet themselves, it helped them to get through Giselle's death. For Janelle, it took a little longer but she has gotten through it. Some counseling has helped too. Psyche has given her the A-OK. She has become a much stronger person because of it.

She is a very loving woman who has a very good bedside manner. She is very self-efficient and very loyal.
