The symbiont, Lias, is currently under a strict warning from the Trill Initiate Institute for being a potential bad influence on the behavior of its first, and possibly its second host. The current host, Tizarin, is required to report any action she undertakes that could jeopardize the health or well being of symbiont or host to the Institute, if she feels said behavior was directly influenced by Lias. | ||

Tizarin Diol was born on Trill in the early summer months of 2355, to a small family living in the upper-middle class districts of one of Trill's largest cities. Her childhood was relatively normal, and early on Tizarin proved herself to be something of a tomboy. She had a rugged side, and enjoyed playing competitive sports more than her brothers. By the time she reached her teenage years, she had developed a propensity for getting into fights. Something that worried her parents, impressed her brothers, and made her feared as a bit of a school bully although she never actually started most of the fights she got into. It was much to the amazement of her family, when Tizarin was chosen as a candidate for symbiont implantation by the Trill Initiate Institute when she was fifteen years old. At first Tizarin refused, saying she wanted to follow her own bent. But, her older brother Jigo talked her out of it. He convinced her that she could still follow her own path if she were joined, but that she'd have the benefits of the past life experiences of the previous hosts of her symbiont to help her along the way. And, she would be the first person in her family to receive a symbiont. That is, if she made the cut, passing the rigorous tests that the Initiate Institute was famous for laying in the path of new host candidates. After a year of training with the Institute, Tizarin did, in fact, pass her initial qualification tests. She discovered she had strong talents in science and in forensic study during her training, and she also became interested in a career in medicine from studying the biological aspects of the Trill's host-symbiont relationship. Tizarin wanted to become a doctor. The Initiate Institute arranged for her to take the entrance exams to enter Starfleet Academy as a Medical cadet, and on her second attempt, Tizarin passed. She began her studies at the Academy in the fall of 2372, at seventeen years of age, still unjoined. The Institute wanted Tizarin to make some sort of life, and a stable future for herself before she would be considered to actually host a symbiont. And since she had expressed an interest in medical study, they felt Starfleet was an excellent place for Tizarin to pursue such a career. Her four years as a Medical cadet went by fairly smoothly. During the time at the Initiate Institute, she had learned better control of her temperament. She did get into the occasional scrape at the Academy, but these minor indiscretions were overlooked, for the most part, as she was a very promising cadet. Ambitious and hardworking, if a bit overeager, sometimes. The war between the Federation, and the Dominion raged as Tizarin completed her education. And she counted herself lucky to have managed to avoid the conflict. But it had it's effects on her. Jigo, her brother, was killed when the freighter he was working on as a civilian engineer was attacked and destroyed carrying Federation medical supplies in Cardassian space. The loss of her brother was a sore blow to Tizarin, but she dealt with it by not dealing with it, and throwing herself into her work. She graduated in the top 20% of her class as a result, although some of her classmates accused her of cheating on her final exams. This issue was never taken before any higher authority, and Tizarin was graduated at the rank of Ensign, and given her first assignment in 2376. For the next two years, she served aboard the Hope class Medical frigate, the USS Carris. She served as an assistant to the duty officer on the beta shift for her first year, and then as an emergency medic assigned to accompany away teams and perform triage medicine during her last two years. Here she gained some experience not only in dealing with medical emergencies, but in combat situations as well. There were still some regions in space where hostilities flourished in the aftermath of the war- especially with The Breen. In 2378, Tizarin was transferred to the USS Peerless, an Akira class ship. But, no promotion was forthcoming. This did not bother her, as she enjoyed her job, and was not worried about rank advancement as long as she was allowed to continue doing her job: treating patients and participating in away missions. Things were different on the Peerless, however, as the Akira class ship had a better equipped security and tactical department than a medical frigate. And the ship was not sent into as many dangerous situations, as the Dominion War became more a thing of history and less a thing of current events. She served nearly three years aboard the Peerless, continuing to study medical procedure in her spare time. She even served a brief stint as Assistant Chief Medical Officer, but only in an acting capacity, and only for three months' time. In the early months of 2381, however, Tizarin was forced to ask for an extended leave of absence from the Peerless' commanding officer. The Initiate Institute had decided it was time for her to be joined to a symbiont. Tizarin was recalled to Trill, and with her parents on hand for the process, she was joined to a relatively young symbiont called Lias. Lias was only 95 years old, young by Trill standards. And it had only had two previous hosts. Tizarin was to be the third. But there was a complication. Not with the medical procedure, but, the Initiate Institute was suspicious, with the symbiont itself. Both of the previous hosts had exhibited behavior that, though not dangerous, or criminal was considered highly undesirable by the judges at the Institute. Tizarin was to be something of a "test case". And she was ordered by the Institute to report any behavior she engaged in that she felt was of a hazardous nature to either host or symbiont, and that she further felt was directly influenced by the symbiont, Lias. The Initiate Institute had chosen Tizarin to host Lias because she was a doctor, and a Starfleet officer, and expected to hold herself to a higher standard of behavior than a Trill civilian might feel obliged to. The rest of Tizarin's leave was spent getting to know her new symbiont, and she found that she enjoyed her bond with Lias, and the new memories she acquired from the symbiont's two previous lives gave Tizarin a new outlook. This enhanced her spirit of adventure, and in many ways reverted her personality to much of what it was in her youth. Rugged, outgoing, and athletic. Tizarin saw nothing wrong with the influence of Lias, and decided she would make certain the Initiate Institute had no reason to suspect the symbiont of any negative influence on her, but at the same time she would allow herself to enjoy what she found to be a very outgoing and liberating influence. After her leave was over, Tizarin, still at the rank of Ensign, was assigned to the Medical department aboard the newly refit USS Galaxy, under Captain Daren M'Kantu and Chief Medical Officer Klaus Fienberg. |

Tizarin Diol, who is now known as Tizarin Lias, has always been a very outgoing and a very physically active person. But, she has a quiet personality on the surface, in that she doesn't say much. This has lead some to assume she's antisocial or unfriendly, and she even earned the nickname of "The Ice Queen" during her tenure aboard the Carris. But, Tizarin is actually not as frosty as she often appears. She simply keeps to herself, and concentrates on her work. But if someone makes an overture of friendship in her direction they'll find Tizarin eager to accept it. She is a bit moody, and is sometimes given to displays of temper. Especially at the end of a long and stressful day. Usually these displays take the form of quick verbal outbursts, or the occasional banging of a fist against a wall or console. Tizarin has also been known to use profanity, even in front of senior officers, if she loses her temper. But those who know her well know she can be fun, and quite playful. She enjoys all manner of sports, especially water sports; and she isn't above the occasional practical joke. On duty, however, she can still sometimes deserve the "Ice Queen" moniker; as she flies through her duties, barely speaking. This gives her a bedside manner that is not the warmest in the fleet, but her superiors are quick to take note that she gets the job done. Tizarin is also never above taking on an extra duty shift, or pulling a long shift during an emergency. She's always the first to volunteer if the CMO asks if anyone can stay late. Tizarin has never been involved in a real romantic relationship. But she has had a boyfriend or two. And for the most part she has tired of romance. At least until someone comes along that pushes her buttons in the right way. And under the influence of Lias, Tizarin is beginning to think it might be time to try another relationship, and work at it this time. Her first love is her work, however. And she will always go the extra mile for her patients, even to the point of breaching protocol if she knows it is the only way to make sure her patient makes a full recovery. She has lost a few patients- usually due to combat situations. And these individuals remain very vivid memories for her. She claims she has never forgotten the face of any of her patients who have died. |

Tizarin Lias is a tall young woman with a trim figure and short-cut dark hair. She has a small, round face with a girlish smile and serious looking dark blue eyes. She keeps herself in shape with her regimen of athletic interests, most of which she uses her holodeck time to indulge in on a regular basis. Her voice is soft, and quiet when she speaks; and she sometimes tends to mumble, especially when she's working or in the middle of something. When she raises her voice, it can become loud, and throaty; and it is easy to hear her shouting for a nurse, even over the din of a hectic emergency situation in sickbay. In addition to the traditional skin-markings of a Trill, Tizarin has a tattoo, of a Chinese Dragon on her left shoulder, and another of a rising sun at the base of her spine. Tizarin is the third host to Lias. The symbiont's previous hosts were: Golan Lias (2286-2329), a male: Golan was an artist. He moved to Risa shortly after being joined with Lias, despite the objections of both his patron and his wealthy family. The influence of the symbiont was blamed. Golan lived a relatively short life, dying at the age of 64. At the time of his death, though an accomplished artist he was also a notorious womanizer and a drunkard. He was a big, boisterous man known for his fits of temper that could just as easily swing to fits of uncontrollable mirth. By the time of his death he was living alone, on Argellius III, a virtual hermit. He died of a heart attack, and was suffering from a diseased liver at the time of his death. Mirana Lias (2329-2381), a female: A successful and respected Federation envoy in her later years, Mirana Lias had been everything from a professional gambler, to a successful land developer on Troyius in her early life. Some of her adventures were deemed less than appropriate for a Trill, by the Initiate Institute, and as Mirana had lead a very quiet childhood, and young adult life, once again the influence of the symbiont Lias was blamed. One of Mirana's best known accomplishments as a Federation envoy was helping to establish relations between the Federation and the semi-isolationist world of Daerice, and the Deadryn people. She was also, very openly, a lesbian; and she refused to settle down, or raise a family. These were traits the Initiate Institute did not see as appropriate in view of the lifestyle of the previous host; and something else they blamed on the symbiont's influence. When Mirana died the symbiont past to the third host, Tizarin. Tizarin is, often puzzled as to why the Initiate Institute chose her as host to Lias. If they felt the symbiont was a bad influence on it's host, why chose someone with a history of temperamental and often questionable behavior for the new host. Tizarin has resolved that the Institute must be trying to test Lias: if the symbiont has a negative influence on it's hosts, then this will surely manifest itself early on in Tizarin. But, Tizarin is determined to protect her symbiont. And she does not believe Lias' influence is negative. |
