Born on Earth, Alex knew little of his father as his parents divorced 2 days before his 8th birthday. Although Alex has few memories, one of his father in his class A Starfleet uniform, ribbons glistening in the San Francisco sun, is the strongest memory that he has. After his father left, Alex's mother, a exo-cultural anthropologist, took Alex far away from his father. Among these postings were Vulcan, Kzin, Bajor and many more, eventually ending on Andor. Alex grew up among the Andorian children, learning their tough life and becoming as much an Andorian as an antenna-less, pale skin can become. The tough militaristic culture did nothing but increase Alex's drive to follow in his father's footsteps. Alex's cultural experience even allowed him to attend the Andorian Military Institute as all military males on Andor, regardless of race, are required to be active in a standing militia.

On his 20th birthday, Alex, among tears from his mother, walked into the Federation outpost and submitted his application. His prior training caused him to score well in most fields; however his scores in Tactical and Sciences far exceeded anyone's expectations. Selecting the Tactical operations career field he began his journey.

Alex possesses exceptional reasoning skills and tactical abilities. His ability to think outside the box in most scenarios allows him to quickly assess scenarios before most of his peer group.

He has had extensive combat training, from his time on Andor and experience in most aspects of small unit warfare. He is proficient with both tactical and strategic deployments of forces and skilled in/or has working knowledge of all Starfleet and allied weapons systems as well as major threat force systems, both ship based and tactical.

Alex is a graduate of Advanced Tactical/Security operations and is bridge certified for those positions.

Alex holds a competitive level of skill in the use of the Andorian Chaka. Like his Mother he holds an above average interest in alien cultures and has picked up a hodgepodge of knowledge such as the Kzin Tak'Rral fighting style and Vulcan meditation techniques.

Alex is the only son of Captain Hunter McKenzie and his estranged wife Sheila Thomas. His mother resides on Earth, when not on a dig, in the former state of Colorado and his Father commands the USS Rampart. Alex has sparse contact with his father and has not told him of his posting. While not actively keeping it from him he hasn't broached the subject either.
