The Great River of the Ferengi Material Continuum is rife with eddies, rapids, fickle currents and falls - each of which has been experienced by Taev. Thrust into the family expectation of investment banking, he was forced into the Ferenginar Commerce School as soon as his parents cheque was deposited into the Dean's account. While a bright student, Taev found the traditional techniques for the pursuit of latinum hollow and unsatisfying. While earnest in the quest for a fortune, he was unsettled by his lack of zeal.

The Great River became bountiful when his apprenticeship took him with a more experienced Damon to Earth to act as an intermediary for an Orion trade guild. Earth's exchanges lacked the frantic bustle of those on Ferenginar (they actually close!), he found other pursuits more enjoyable, specifically the exchange of new ideas with new races and cultures. Taev was careful not to take advantage of those less entrepreneurially savvy, instead taking the view that soliciting earnest friendship could broker future business opportunities later (a friend in need is a friend indeed). It was this desire for new experiences, as well as the influence of new friends, that led Taev to abandon his apprenticeship and enroll in the Academy.

The River has thrown a few rapids in Taev's journey along the way - at 4'11", he endured the hazing of most of his classmates while doing his best not to take unorthodox, economic revenge. In his second year, he was hooked by the feel of flying during training exercises, and changed tack from a career in Ops to piloting a starfighter - it was the difference of doing something well, and something exceedingly well; Taev's short legs and stature made him capable of performing high gee and negative gee maneuvers not often possible for taller, larger pilots. He also had a natural affinity for getting out of trouble unscathed - a healthy piloting trait.

Swift currents brought him to perform well beyond expectations at the Saturn flight school, and assignments at Starbases 212 and Atlantis followed upon graduation.

In 2383 Taev was assigned to the Vanguard squadron on USS Galaxy.

Taev is a focused Ferengi determined to accumulate as much wealth as possible in his lifetime - he simply has a heretical, unorthodox concept of what wealth is. Rather than mere latinum Taev seeks varied life experience, firmly believing that such rewards will accrue a superior interest in the long term than mere currency (which will naturally come later).

In pursuit of experience, Taev flies as much as possible and is considered a superior and cunning pilot. When not in a fighter or studying mission plans, he can usually be found in pursuit of his second favorite thing - Oo-mox. His second goal in life is to have Oo-mox with at least one female of each species before he dies.

Taev is a firm believer in the Terran motto "it's not the size that's important, it's what you do with it".
