Christopher, who prefers Chris, was born in 2359 to parents James and Helena Yorke (nee Doxiadis). Both his parents were doctors, his father a lecturer at Starfleet Medical College, and his mother a researcher at Starfleet Medical. As a result Chris was brought up surrounded by medicine and it was only natural that he followed in their footsteps, having started playing with his father's classic stethoscope and medical tricorder aged 5.
Chris was as above average achiever at school, though he was a little introverted, making few friends during his primary schooling, and even less at high school. He liked to concentrate on his work and spend time with his parents out-of-school during his teenage years, which limited his social development a little, choosing to stay in instead of going out with friends.
He joined Starfleet's youth association aged 14. The group was designed to keep teenagers out of trouble, but also to give them some guidance and assistance in case they looked to joining Starfleet. He started rock climbing and abseiling in the group and made a few more friends than he was doing at school.
Chris left school in 2375, aged 16, with reasonable grades. Though the results were nothing fantastic he was still able to get into a college on Earth, the University of Northern England, where he studied a medical course.
Although generally a good looking young man, he was skinny and was never overly confident with his appearance. It was his time at university that began to change that. A couple of friends he met there introduced him to weight training, which he continues to date, having managed to build up quite a defined athletic figure. This though, was nothing more than a reaction to his poor social abilities, and helped him gain sexual interest from others. Something which gave him a definite confidence boost.
In 2379, Chris completed his studies at the university and was accepted into Starfleet Academy to commence his basic officer studies. He continued his weight training and climbing hobbies whilst at the Academy, taking advantage of the proximity to the North American mountain ranges. His focus was generally good, though he found himself distracted, wanting to study more medical related subjects, as opposed to the general officer training.
He graduated from the Academy in 2383 with average grades, his instructors commenting that they felt his specific training would produce better results and help Chris focus.
This was, in fact, the case. He spent the next three years at Starfleet Medical College, completing the basic medical training in a variety of species physiology, having already studied the primary species in his bachelors course on Earth. He performed admirably in medical studies, being given expert guidance every step of the way. Chris was grateful for the help and was never questioning of it. He completed a project in Klingon Rehabilitative Care in 2385, his paper being published in the Starfleet Medical Journal with much accreditation.
He left the Medical College that year and was assigned to the USS Galaxy. It was while he was awaiting transfer that he learned, thanks to a failed medical student who he had never seen eye-to-eye with, that his parents had been heavily influential in his studies at the college. The tutors had been giving him guidance simply due to who his family was.
Chris was disheartened, he wasn't sure whether he deserved his qualifications and the position on the Galaxy and began questioning everything he had done at Medical College. He had an argument with his parents about the situation before leaving for the Galaxy, and has yet to resolve the issues.
