Due to the unique nature of Andorian biology, the ability for a quad to produce a child is not only a necessity but a duty. To produce more than a single child, however, was a great boon for both society and for the quad. It was with such great fortune that the likes of Lana zh'Rin, Nari sh'Kash, Dishet ch'Shal and Thar th'Vehn were able to produce a pair of zhei. Twins, being incredibly rare among Andorians, were a great boon for the pairing and thus elevated their status within Andorian society slightly above where they had begun. Their zhei, Shi and Shalla zh'Rin, began their education as all Andorian offspring do, learning their roles in the society and what would be expected of them in the future. Live for the whole was the lesson they were taught. When they came of age, each was joined with a quad, to which they would be expected to mate and produce a child. Shi immediately felt at home with her own bondmates, and grew nearly as close to Shalla's bondmates as well. The time spent apart from her zhi allowed her to grow as her own person and to see the world on her own, rather than the shared view she had with Shalla. The closeness and similarities of Shalla and Shi, however, made it difficult to tell them apart, even for their betrothed. It became a source of amusement for the zhi. Some of Shi's earliest memories revolved around music and art, and would always be a source of comfort for her. She tried to be interested in science the way Shalla was, but it never quite captured her. It was interesting, to be sure, but she could never become as passionate about it as her sister had. As for what to do with her life, she had no idea. And, in the end, decided she would apply to Starfleet Academy. Perhaps there, she would find something that would capture her interest. Like Shalla, the thought of leaving Andor behind. But, from birth, she had always been taught to live for the whole. As Andor was a part of the Federation, she was determined to do her part for the whole. And so, with Shalla, she entered Starfleet Academy. While Shalla knew what she wanted from the start, it was not so simple for Shi. Her Academy courses followed a much more generalized subject matter, taking in a little of everything without committing to any one thing. As Shalla applied for a study program on the oceanic world of Pacifica, Shi did so as well. It was here that Shi finally decided on her path. On Pacifica, she was assigned as a shuttle pilot for the Starfleet base there, and she fell in love with flying. She discovered a bit of a daredevil inside her, and indulged in that. Returning to the Academy, she focused her study, and earned high ratings on every classification of ship she put her attention toward. She had enjoyed the oceans of her homeworld, but it wasn't until Pacifica that she really grew to love and respect them. When her duties had not required her, she spent the remainder of her time either on the shores or within the planet's waters. While Shalla chose her assignment quickly, Shi took her time in choosing. As her twin finally set out for her first posting, she put in several requests. As long as she ended up at the helm of a ship, she would be happy. The separation from her zhi was very difficult, but frequent correspondence and promises of shared shore leave would make the distance less great. And so, she said her goodbyes to friends made at the Academy and transmitted a message to her twin across the vastness of space, and prepared for the beginning of her own adventures as a Starfleet Officer. |

Shi zh'Rin is an outgoing zhen with a positive outlook on life. For a long time, she was as quiet and reserved as her zhi, but soon grew comfortable around the others at the Academy. It was her choice of Flight Control as a career path that eventually burned away the quiet reserve. She is an active participant in conversations and will not hesitate to introduce herself to new people she meets. She welcomes learning more about the people around her and the stories they bring with them. While she can appreciate the humor of some species, she still has some difficulty understanding some of it. Shi is loyal to friends and family, and to the Federation as a whole. She takes her duty seriously, both personal and professional. She can be hot-tempered, but forgives easily and quickly forgets. |
