The Federation
Liaison Corps |
The Federation Liaison Corps watches over the Federation and Starfleet closely. They are responsible for ensuring that Starfleet personnel adhere to the laws of Starfleet and the Federation, and do not abuse their authority. The Federation Liaison Corps also investigates any incident, which directly involves or affects Starfleet personnel, and handles the apprehension and detention of these prisoners. Legal cases within Starfleet and its personnel are handled by the Federation Liaison Corps. Internal matters within Starfleet are handled by Starfleet Security. Starfleet also maintains an agency called Starfleet Intelligence, which operates as the external counterpart to Starfleet Security. It is responsible for interstellar intelligence and espionage. The Corps is an entirely separate department, related to Starfleet and drawing from it's resources, but only answerable to the Federation Council and the President to preserve it's independence. The Corps, for the sharp edge it is taking in making sure no Starfleet officer gets off track, is not a very popular division among Starfleet officers. In addition to conducting it's own investigations, the
Federation Liaison Corps also frequently coordinate with the Judge Advocate
General's Office, acting as their enforcement arm when necessary. Also,
as they are responsible for conduct of all Starfleet personnel, it is
the Judge Advocate General's Office, which tries the officers Liaison
Corps apprehends. Not surprisingly, the two departments possess close
ties. |
