Homeworld

Sakaria consists of one mainland and several islands. The islands are tropical much like Earth's Hawaii. There are beaches of silver sand along the coastlines of both the mainland and the islands. They are usually of moderate warmth with a misty air close to the ocean. On the islands, the rest of the land is a kind of rainforest. These are rarely inhabited except by hermits and the such. Beyond the beaches on the mainland, a ring of forests surround the continent. Some of this has been cleared to create pathways to the beaches. There are grassy plains further inland. This is where most of the culture towers and hamlets lie. The plains have a temperate climate. The majority of the year, Sakarians living here enjoy a cool breeze and some days a slight warmer front comes in. There is a hot season but lasts only one month, sometimes two months. There are deserts covering part of the central area of the mainland. There are some cultural towers here as well, but the Sakarians do not like to live in these areas. These were also the battlefields for the civil war.

Government

There is one main ruler, called the Ruyel, and he appoints several nominees for governors over a set amount of hamlets. The people within those hamlets get to vote on their governor. The Ruyel then give authority of that man or woman to govern those hamlets, but he can relinquish that power at any time.

The governor is the highest of classes and will wear his high robes wherever he goes. There had been some governors who will wear lower fashion, but these are rare as it makes the people uncomfortable or the governor simply wants to keep the air of authority.

Sakarians are indistinguishable from humans in every aspect. They can reproduce with humans and other humanoid species. Though this has not been done, yet, it is possible. Childbearing is similar to humans.

Placing Sakarians in comparison to Terrans, their differences lie in their bone structure and skin pigment. Sakarians' bone structure is less dense inside, yet the fibers are almost twice as dense on the outer layer. This makes breaking bones more difficult, but once broken, takes a bit more time to heal. Sakarians have a redder tone than Terrans, causing them to have a natural tropical beauty. During the winter month, or when they are cold, their skin darkens as an attempt to soak in more heat from the sun.

Society

Sakarians put just about similar importance on any guild or skill or career. Most do not think one job or skill is more important than the other; it is simply their place in life. Some are born into a guild, but through hard work of proving themselves can break free of that expectation. There are basic guilds of warrior, artist, farmer, scientist, and the like. Wives of warriors are important in their war of supporter and encourager. The wife of the artist can act as a muse. The wife of the farmer often helps in the chores. Also, almost an equal amount of women choose to be a warrior or artist or farmer in their own right. They work along side their husband, or have more casual relationships not committing to marriage.

Sakarians are proud and stubborn and tend to show passion in their emotion. They love and they hate passionately. Divorces are rare on Sakaria because of this strong passionate love they possess for their mate. If they are ever angered to the opposite side of passion, a divorce is granted and they often separate from each other by several miles. Children are most often given to the mother, and the law must give rights to the father for the strong passion of the mother and it is the only way to make her allow this.

There are some Sakarians who are more subdued, these are mostly the artists, but even they possess such a strong passion as shown in their art, be it in words, pictures, dance or song.

There are classes in Sakaria to determine more wealthy from another, but this not matter much to themselves or to other classes. Sakarians are contented to live out their lot in life. The wealthy work no less. Lesser classes can advance through hard work. The higher classes mingle just as freely with the lower classes. There are gatherings exclusively for certain classes, but lower classes are welcome if invited. Higher class does not enjoy inter-class parties very well as they must dress in lower fashion.

Sakarians enjoy being alone, with their close family or large gatherings. Some prefer one or the other. Food served at banquets and feasts are usually meats and fruits. There is also breads and pastries.

Marriage between Sakarians are held in high regard because of their strong passionate connection with each other. Intimate bonding is often held until after the wedding as it only strengthens the passion and losing one whom they have bonded with is devastating to say the lease. If they do create this bond without marriage, they often wed afterward finding they cannot consider loving anyone else after having that one person. After a divorce, it is rare they remarry because of this bond.

There are men and women who would have what some call casual sex, but they are rare and usually lack that strong passion. They are normally outsiders living only among themselves. They can find that bond, but typically are very melancholy and lonely even among their own community.

Sakarian children start school about their fourth year of life, and the earliest schooling is set up in a nurturing setting with many adults and positive influences. Strong artistic and mental skills are established at this time. About their 7th year, they are taught basic things as math and language. About their 11th year, they also study history and science and advanced language. Advanced math is an elective as is art. By the time they are 18, they can choose to stay for further science and math. Art is further learned through internship or self-experience.

Culture

The Sakarians appreciate fine arts, literature, and sometimes philosophy (many find it a pointless venture). Their culture is one of great beauty and an ancient history.

Sakarian music varies depending. There is strong, minor toned music for warriors; higher pitched for the farming communities, upbeat or saddening depending on the occasion. There is "story" music telling of the history of Sakaria, often times exaggerated. There is also music for the sake of art. This can vary greatly and few non-artists appreciate it.

Sakarians hold art and nature in high regard. They have no need to separate pieces of land for protection. All Sakarian know to only take what they need and if something needs replenishing, they trust nature to take care of itself, only not touching the land until it is healed.

Museums, as mentioned earlier are in the cultural towers. Often adjacent to grocers or schools. Also, as often, the art is simply hung or displayed along the corridors. Special exhibits portraying themes or artists are held in a room to themselves.

Cultural Towers
Although called cultural towers, they are also marketplaces. These towers are of different sizes, but normally span several acres of land and reach up several stories. They are typically made of white brick, or painted white. Within these towers are grocers, clothing retailers, museums, theaters, schools, colleges, universities, and some even contain arena sports. There are other small markets scattered around the land, but they are not threatened by the large towers.

Technology
Sakarians do have warp technology and transporting technology. They developed these on their own. Many Sakarians choose to live with little technology. It is usually only employed by the warriors and scientists. Sakarians prefer not to fight, but they know the reality of war and have several regiments of warriors, advanced weaponry and several bases throughout the mainland.

Hamlets
Sakarians try to live in peace with each other and stay out of other planets' business, making them self-exclusive. In hamlets, it is not surprising to find the whole community so close as to become like family.

Traditions & Celebrations
Sakarians have feasts of celebration, but generally only have rituals for important events such as birth, marriage and death.

The wedding ceremony is held in three sections. The first section, the man and woman meet alone at sunset. Word, or vows, can vary but the important part of the ritual is the blending of blood. The bride and groom each cut a small slit in their palm and press it together speaking a phrase of forever love and kiss. They then put ointment on the cut and bandage each other's hands, each using one end of the wrap, binding them together.

They then walk along a path lit with candles to an archway where the hamlet elder (no governmental authority but acts as judge among the hamlet) awaits to speak words and confirm them in marriage. The bandage is unwrapped and thrown into a fire. Their blood is now joined in the fire of passion. Music is played as the couple literally run to their new home (which is set up before the wedding by their parents) and intimately join.

The next morning there is a large feast lasting most of the day. In the afternoon, the couple travel to the beach to spend the next few days basking in each other's passion for the other.

The Gender roles various depending on the family.

After the death of a Sakarian, close family will be surrounded by the hamlet and not allowed to work for 3 days to deal with their grief. They grieve in passion as well. They are usually cremated and the ashes thrown to the wind.

A birth is marked by each member of the hamlet and family placing a kiss on the child's forehead, welcoming it.

History

Sakaria was attacked 3 or so decades ago. The Sakarians, at the time were not prepared to fight. They thought they were, as they had warriors and ships and weapons, but their tactical skills were lack. They lost several men, when seemingly out of nowhere, a Star Fleet officer came and took over teaching them these skills. It is rumored, he was killed and came back to life.

Regardless, he is held in high esteem. Along with a wife we met later while serving in Star Fleet, they had a daughter. Almost 20 years later, a civil war broke out causing him again to fight alongside his daughter.
